hi all i just joined up wanting to know all your opinions,
I am looking at buying a new car in the next couple of weeks (ve ute is one of the options) and want the people who are driving them what they they think of them and what could be better.
Also have all the problems that were accounted on the sedan not been transfered over to the ute?
Has anyone got a genuine holden hardlid fitted(not the ones with a lip at the back)? Could they post up pics of the locking system and where the electical cable comes out at the front of the tray for the locking system, as i would like to see how easy it is to take off the hard lid when the need arises. And have holden still gone for the unlocking the lid by key remote system?
Thankyou all:bow:

Mate just quickly I've just jumped into a VE SS ute from a BA Ute, gone from the BOSS 5.4 to the 6lt and couldn't be happier. The last holden I had was the VX SS series 2 sedan which I also loved. Thought I'd give the ford a go but never again...
As for the hard lid, at the time of ordering my ute (dec 07) I also placed the order for the hard lid, which I was prepared to wait for, I was told april/may.. To my amazement when my car arrived it had the disgusting lid that you mentioned on it. I had the dealer take it off and give me my money back. When I asked what happened to the genuine lid it seems that they are still some time off delivering it as it is very "flimsy" and having all sorts of issues with the central locking component of it..
If anyone does have a photo would really love to see it...

If so, mine is not hooked into central locking, but there is a rumour floating round that there will be a central locking kit out soon... I love this lid so much other than the other piece of crap that Holden released, the one that came out a good few inches at the rear, it is very solid and looks horn :P
This is the other lid that Holden discontinued:

I have had my SSV since 1 dec 07, and apart from the blue tooth hands free not being as good as it could, and the big a pillars at round abouts sometimes, in 8500km I have been very happy with the economy, power, and function of the ute, I stayed away from the hard cover, but added 6 pot AP fron calipers and rotors, 4 pot rears, Eibach Coils, and custom bilstein struts, as well as changed out some of the Holden bushes, to improve handling, and fix axle tramp. Also changed the rear exhaust tips.

What bushes did you replace that fixed the axle tramp?
I've had my ute for just under a week and could not be happier. Super comfortable, plenty of power, handles like its on rails and for a stocker the 6.0 sounds magic.
BUT why did they put 12V socket in the console??? even my crappy old mazda bravo has two sockets, in a place that is user freinndly!!
Blue tooth has been good so far, no pairing probs and hasnt dropped out or unpaired yet. Have alloy ladder bars on it to carry my ladders, so no feed back on the hard lid sorry.
Overall vey happy.
Cheers.

guys, thanks for your input, Ryaniam your ute looks nice i am still not convinced on the lip that overhangs the back though, can i ask how much yours was as i have had a quote from holden to have 1 fitted when i eventually get my ute for $2900 fitted and i made sure i told it had to be connected to central locking because being a tradie i was sick of locking it manually to protect my tools in the ghetto areas. The dealer did advise me there were issues with the hardlid (shown on holden website).

damn i should have waited, i got the egr lid with no central locking.
i'm wondering if it can still be fitted with the central locking aftermarket, and at holden dealers expense as when i orginally ordered was ment to have it, or as ive taken delivery it wont matter to them.

inside word is there is a kit coming around early april for about 300$ fitted that gives you central locking + light. and i doubt holden will cover the cost as apparently they are jacking the lid price up to cover it for new orders.

My oldman has done in 10,500kms already in his SSV ute and it hasnt missed a beat.
He has the hardlid from the first pic, looks pretty chunky in real life. I like it.
He has towed a caravan with it for about 3,000km and said it handled really well. It was solid, had the power when he needed it and didnt have any traction issues.
Very comfortable inside.
It sh*ts all over the BA ute he had previously, but i guess we knew that before he'd picked it up.
He also has the turn by turn sat nav that is only in the speedometre and said it was really good had no dramas with it at all.
Overall its a very good package.

hey ryaniam, the egr lid that you got does it raise up slightly at the back, and does it give you any grief when reversing?

fair enough, i'd pay the extra 300 for a central locking kit
I've had my Ve ssv since 9th Nov, just getting to 15,000 clicks.
Only things that bug me ...... clunking (sometimes) from somewhere along the drive train and the paint miss-match.
Other than that it tops.

hey mate i have a new maloo and could be more happy with holden utes with my hard lid it locks from the tail gate so all the wires are to the tail gate not the hard lid so it s the same to take off as all the other hard lids. I would say the ss will be the same way

Had my 08 for just over two months, extremely happy with, waiting for the hard lid with central locking to arrive (EGR Lid). Only glitch happened yesterday when i jumped in it to go out an got nothing more than a "click". Battery discharged itself for some reason, but its goin in asap to have that looked at, heres hoping it just needs a comp update
