sounds like VATS. try using another key if you have one. or try locking and unlocking with the key buttons before you try to start.

Did you leave it parked with the key in it?

If so take the key out press the unlock button and restart the car.

If your key won't open the car with the remote then you are in trouble mate. Last month i had the same trouble with my VT2 Clubby it did exactly what you described, because the key was flat it wouldn't talk to the computer to turn the immobiliser off. I ended up putting it on a trailer and taking it to holden to have a new key programed as it was the only option i had left.

1 thing you can try is the leave the key in the ignition for an hour with the ignition on and it (MIGHT) over ride the immobiliser if you get it started then get it to some one that can program a key for you. Good luck.

Replace the stupid VT/VX/VU key reader (the plastic and metal ring around the ignition barrel that makes contact with the metal points on the key head) with a new VY/VZ key reader. Easy as remove steering column surrounds (one screw I think), pull off old reader, push on new reader, problem should be solved. My VX was doing the same thing, nearly had to get it towed a few times, then discovered what it was by reading these forums, got the part from Holden ($13), and replaced it myself. Holden and RACQ were crying, it's the key, it's the key. It wasn't :)

The key reader I removed from my car actually had a bit of damage on the contact leg that is linked to the PCM (???), looked like a scorch mark.

Wish you could replace a VT-VZ keyreader with a VE one, so we could use the flipkeys :)

Key reader's not a very common problem from what i was told by a couple mates that used to work at holden but the key goin flat is. I'd try leavin the ignition on for an hour first then you'll no if its immobiliser or key reader.
