Hi guys,

This is the first time i've visited this section of the forum. My wife and I have recently moved and I am changing to a job where I will need to drive / ride to work, so I am considering buying another bike.

I have a full licence, but havent ridden a road bike for a couple of years. Have done a bit of trail bike riding etc in that time. I am starting to get excited about getting another road bike! :woohoo:

Anyway, I am looking at spending around the $5k - $7k mark. The trip is about 50kms each way, with basically no traffic. It is all winding country road.

So what would be some good bikes to consider? I am thinking a sports tourer, something a bit sporty but not overly. Leaning towards a ZZR600 or ZZR1100.

Also what kind of fuel economy can I expect from a bike such as this? Would a 600 be better for commuting (bare in mind im just over 6', about 100kg).

Cheers

I've got a ZZR600 that I use for commuting, and it does a good job, but those bikes are getting long in the tooth now and don't handle as well as the later gen bikes. They also have an awful gearbox and a really irritating 3000rpm flatspot (mine does anyway).

For commuting it will be fine, just don't expect it to be a world-beater. Also look at bikes like the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer, the Suzuki Bandit 650 and The Honduh Hornet.

I'm looking for a reasonable ZZR1100 this year to possibly replace the 600 with, as I don't like any of the current range of sports tourers.

I'm about 6'4" and have migrated from a GPZ600, which I found too small, up to a VFR800 Honda which I find to be brilliant for commuting and cruising.

**** using a Motard for commuting. I can just imagine the ordeal in the middle of winter, riding through torrential rain and crosswinds. Errrgh :eyes:

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

So can anyone give me an idea of what kind of fuel economy I can expect from say a 250, 600, and 1000, so I can compare? (A rough guide will do).

Just curious to know as I'm not sure how much fuel the bigger bikes use...
