Buy a VX series 2 or newer. Plenty of reasons why. Engine and suspension wise are a lot better and the price difference between what you stated will be negligible.

almost all the bad ones would have been fixed. despite what most say VT2 didn't have many problems ls1, started more in the VX1 when problems started appearing everywhere. batch numbers i guess on the motors.

anyway any effected ones were fixed for free and ungraded to the later telfon pistons.

Vx2 had extra toe correction rods, but early ones could be fixed with a camber kit anyway, esp if lowering where the problems of inner tyre wear became more apparent.

the motors are somewhat noisy anyway, more so with a cam and extractors fitted.

look for: start a dead cold motor (touch it and is cold) listen as it warms up. if noisy and goes away when warm probably has a little slap or pin noise. gets noisy when warm but goes away when rev'd probably a noisy lifter/s.

it has clean oil, regular services etc.

Always better to have the latest year car you can afford both being equal in condition.
