went into the tyre factory yesterday pricing some 20's for the R8, the dude there said they use the same size rims all round with 245 tyres on the front & 275 tyres on the back.
is that right or are the rear rims meant to be bigger than the front ones

8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears
Maybe 10" rears!
Do BMW still have the same stud pattern? Maybe there wheel range might fit?

I'm pretty sure R8 wheels on VE are 19x8.5 all round, the GTS wheels are 20x8.5 front and 20x9.5 rear, not many wheel manufacturers get staggered fitment for aftermarket wheels and you will end up paying more for the service.
IMO TTF are sh!t, if you get a package the tyres will be cheap chinese rubbish and you don't want 65K of car rolling around on junk tyres!!
Back to your original question, 275's wont fit on an 8.5 inch rim, so the 275's are for a 9.5 or 10 inch rim.

Legally, they don't fit. But they will "Physically" fit. I had 275's on 8" rims before.

Were they on 20 inch rims though??
I have had 225 on 6.5 inch rims but they were 15's on my old Commodore not 20's

From hsv.com
19" x 8" front alloy wheel with 245/40 R19 98Y tyre Standard
19" x 9.5" rear alloy wheel with 275/35 R19 96Y tyre Standard
I wouldnt think it is legal to put 275 on an 8"

thats what worrys me (cheap tyres) that are also too big for the rims they are talking about.
I will have to get my book out for a read, but from memory I was told at the dealer that the full size mag spare is the same size as the front wheels, as the back rims are bigger, maybe I should ask for better tyres if I go back, got some bloody nice rims there though

20" GTS rims look the best on these "e" series cars.
Just buy a set of them!
Tempe Tyres has a set 4.4k + tyres I think!

sorry mate I dont like either of em, they are a pain in the arse to clean, cant get into the back of the rim & too many square edges.
Ive got a skinny brush from autobarn which does the job, but still frustrating to do

Powder coat them matt black!!! HOT!!!
Or paint them Satin Black...Also hot.
BIG Chrome rims look cheap and nasty. ( Sorry to the people that own them but they do! )
What about a custom set of Rays. They are staggered and you can get them drilled to suit out cars. And get the right offset.
Maybe I'll do that for my 2nd set. ( Spare set! ).
Does anyone know what the offset and stud patternn is for "E" series HSVs?

black on black looks mad.
most 20" rims cost about $375 per rim from TTF, if they are selling packages for around $2400 that means only $250 per tyre including fitting.
You will want better tyres but be prepared to pay for them.
I saw some on ebay recently, insane tread pattern.
Here they are. They are called Vredestien.

Link - Vredestein (http://www.vredestein.com/Onlineadvies_veelgesteldevragen.asp?UsersessionID= 73&FaqID=36)
Here is the sizing chart for 20" rims
25 285/25 ZR 20 93 Y XL
295/25 ZR 20 95 Y
30 225/30 ZR 20 85 Y XL
245/30 ZR 20 90 Y XL
255/30 ZR 20 92 Y
275/30 ZR 20 97 Y XL
35 245/35 ZR 20 95 Y
255/35 ZR 20 97 Y XL
275/35 ZR 20 102 Y XL
40 245/40 ZR 20 99 Y XL
There is only 1 supplier in Australia but they may be able to hook you up, it is on this website. Based on they types of cars these tyres come on i think they would be pretty darn good over here.
Cheers

That tread pattern looks awsome, wonder if it works though

Incorrect. The HSV E-Series Clubsport R8 has 19x8.5 rims (245/40/19 tyres) on the front and 19.9.5 rims (275/35/19 tyres) on the rear.
Problem you have with after market rims on the HSVs is fitting anything other than 8.5 inch rears over the HSV brake calipers. There are plenty of 20x9.5 and 22x10 inch rims that will fit on the Commodores but not on the HSVs cause. Check out Daz's thread in the "My Ride" section about getting after market rims for his R8 Clubby.
The HSV rears are specially made with a different offset so they fit over the calipers and in the wheel well.
I didn't bother getting after market ones as I think it detracts from a HSV to put after market rims on it. But I did get them painted black with a 2pac satin clear coat.

I'm so sticking with the Bridgestone OEM tyres on my 20's. These are worth every cent IMO. I've had mine on for nearly 38k and I give them a pretty hard time I reckon.
I think Ghosn was referring to the fact these guys quoting obviously had no idea what they were talking about?
I took this pic of this GTS a while back. I thought the darker rims looked nice. I reckon the GTS rims look fat, especially with the wider rears

I've had the VE R8 rims on my car and I don' think they suited the car. Titanium lent them to me whilst my 20" supersports were getting chrome shaddow paint job.

IMO all of the new HSV range of rims looks crappy. GTS inclusive
I do agree that chrome rims also look cheap and nasty.
I also think that the VE range has an awesome capacity to take 22's.
and if it was me, i'd be finding a nice set of shadow chrome 22's with a polished lip.
also if it was me, i wouldn't be getting black wheels. It seems every second car has them now....

Hard man to please Krisp? I don't agree that every second car has black wheels. It's nice to have something a little different. chrome shadow base is gloss black anyway so how are you different with your 22's if it was you?

I like your rims in the last photo....they look classy.....you know??
I just think chrome and black don't always add a touch of class to a nice car, in my opinion shadow chrome with a nice polished lip looks better....i'm not going to debate my opinion, because thats exactly what it is.....my opinion. I mean no offence to anyone with black or chrome rims...in fact I had chrome rims on my old ute.

interesting, ive had a 350z do 26k on its OE briggies, and the 6 mps only do 12k, so i didnt really rate em well for wear, but your results sound good.
BTW - wheels, stripes and colour looks awsome. top job

My OE Bridgie 20s have also been very good for mileage. I'm looking at changing rims (easily bored :D) so had the local tyre place check the tread depth for me so I could see how they were going so I knew for selling them.
They had done 2,500km when I bought them from JKGMH and I have done 11,500km, so 14,000km total. The tyre guy said they start at 9mm (I think it's actually 9.2mm) and said they are now at 6.5mm (3 of them) and 1 at 7.5mm. No idea why one has significantly more as a spare has never been on either mine or John's!
Therefore they should have plenty more left in them too! :yup:
