Ok, I have got the missus keen and I am now in the market for a 2 door. Please advise me which model to go for, my budget is 60k.
I am after a stock or close to stock vehicle and will keep for around 2 years, so resale is kinda important.
All advice appreciated.

Look for a clean low kay Z-series HSV GTO and I dont think you can go wrong. horn looking car with a fair bit of poke.

+1. Look for an '04 if the hoodscoops or LS2 aren't important to you. The Eric the 'alf-a-boot on VZs may or may not be an issue. Pistonslappitis appears fixed from VY II which is Sept '03-on builds with the LS6 block. Plenty of choice down to the $40K mark for an '04 with less than 100K on the clock. Otherwise a nice VZ model GTO is the ducks guts.
If you really wanted a Sunday morning special, GTS Coupes are within your range, too. Only drawback with them is the earlier dash unless you like it.
You really can't go wrong, resales will ease year by year, but a good four year old Monaro is still worth around the $35-40K mark. HSVs have taken their big hit, already.

The GTO's are the pic of the bunch if you can find one you like. There are a few for sale in your price range, dependent on age and K's.
If resale is important, I would get one that has done as much deprecitation as possible, one that will hold it's value and avoid the standard Monaro's. Whilst they have a good resale history, an HSV will always stand up better over time!!

I'd easily go one of the series III or VZ GTOs. But for $40k you could get a stock Monaro and save the $20k on mods or something else entirely.

Have been looking at a couple of GTO's on the net and they seem to fetch 65-80k in the yards.
I would prefer to buy a holden certified jobbie so I can extend the factory warranty which is likely to be 1 year or less remaining.
I'v eseen some nice private vehicles too but the above applies.

Find a nice CV8Z with low K's and in good nick. It should be well within your price range with some change left for mods!

They both look sensational.
Big question : are they private sales or dealer cars? Get them checked out if they are private.

Well I ventured up to Sydney on Sunday to look at two coupes. The first one we looked at was fusion colour and didn't really float my boat, so we left that behind to the disgust of the salesman.
On arrival at Suttons Strathfield, I met up with the salesman I had arranged the visit with earlier in the week.
The GTO was Phantom Colour and immediately I was turned on by the car. Absolutely beautiful condition and exactly what I'd brought the cheque-book for.
I then asked if the missus could take it for a run as it would be her daily and we wanted to make sure she could handle the manual v8.
The salesman proceeded to inform me that the vehicle was a HSV and was high performance and they dont let anyone test drive these types of vehicles until they are ready to purchase.
I said to him we hadnt drove 2 1/2 hrs to test drive his vehicle and we would not be making a firm offer until the missus had had a drive.
He still refused to let us drive it.:vpo:
Consequently we left the yard and drove back to Wilsons Holden in Albion Park and ordered a 08 Calais V 6L Auto in Phantom with Onyx Interior:flipoff:
We got a great trade and paid well below the retail.
My Coupe dream lives on but will wait for the VE to arrive.

Some people will just never learn. :flipoff:
You rang earlier to ARRANGE a viewing and it would be reasonable to assume that a test-drive would be involved - you're spending >$60k on a USED car. :deal:
You had the cash in your skyrocket. :yup:
An imbecile wouldn't let you/your missus test drive a USED car.
I'm tipping that with such an idiotic/moronic attitude, the salesman won't be a salesman for too much longer. What a :jester:
I dunno if it is worth ringing the used car manager/dealer principal and informing them that you would have purchased a car from them, but was rebuked by poor customer service, or whether it isn't worth it. There is no excuse for such poor customer service - EVER. Their loss is another dealer's gain.
It is a USED car FFS. :weirdo:
Nice choice in the Calais BTW.
Maybe you'll have the opportunity for a Coupe 60 in a little while...

Why don't you email a link of this page to the Sales Manager?
Slack attitude to genuine customer...:eyes:

Guys I am still a bit miffed by the whole experience and have emailed there sales manager with the events.
Once I here back from him, I will decide next course of action. I felt like saying to him I drive a ute that would blow the doors off this HSV and the missus has had it sideways a few times, but reserved my sarcasm.

Hey Macca, the missus chose the Calais, and I added the 6 litre:rofl:
Yeah the Coupe 60 is the pants eh?

I'm glad it isn't just me who has had to deal with this type dealer. When I went to buy my first Monaro the dealer told me that I had to order one subject to test drive, with a 100% deposit (interesting definition of deposit there), and then I could drive it when it arrived 3 months later. Suffice to say I didn't do this. The amazing thing is that I had purchased my SS Commodore only 2 years earlier from them and it was the same salesman. So it is not as if I was tyre kicking. Anyway, I went to the other competing dealer who had 2 demo models and test drove one. Oh, and bought one as well. The really weird thing is that when I went to buy the Series 3, I went back to the dealer I bought the earlier one from and they couldn't be bothered serving me. In the end, I bought the second one from the other dealer. Amazingly, I have never had this sort of attitude from a BMW or Mercedes dealer even though I have only been looking at their lower models.

Far out Pete, thats really wierd. Maybe you have a half life cycle of one car per dealer:)

It's strange how some salesmen treat customers! It's not there car your taking on test drive so why would they care:confused:
When i was looking to buy VE i rang a dealer to see if they had a manual demo avalible to test drive. The answer was no but they took a new one of the lot with 8km's on it and let me go for a 1/2 hr drive. They did this not even knowing trade in car etc. Good service
Mate once went to holden dealer to take a VY SS ute for test drive(arrived in a VT berlina V6) wouldn't let him 3 weeks later he got a BA XR8 ute:bawl:
Good luck with the Calais:)
