i have used the search button just found how ppl love it etc. ive looked on website such as ripshifter and just found parts etc and ppls thoughts which are all good.
but i would like to know what it is?
is it a short shifter? does it just replace the gear stick?
and would it be good on a vy ss m6 but with stock clutch?
or is the answer so simple that i should go and:banghead:
thanks everyone

Mate not a dumb question at all! I hope I don't make a fool of myself here but here goes....
Most of your current M6 shifter you can't see as it's under the leather boot but basically it's a lever . If you shorten any lever it can do the same job but travels a shorter distance to do it, hence short shifter or "riip shifter". Now my thinking would be that it can only quicken the time to engage the next gear (shortens the actual travel or distance) so a grumpy gear box is still gunna be a grumpy gear box!?? Others can correct me if I'm wrong? It will almost certainly make shifting quicker and easier so that's why most customers are happy...
Would suit your standard clutch and is more than just the gear stick as the 'lever' assembly involves a bit more you can't see.
How'd I do?

I got one in my VX and essentially it made the gear shift MORE PRECISE. Instead of feeling like you are moving a stick through a bucket of clay and not feeling exactly where the gates are, it feels more precise. Most importantly, it will NEVER miss the 2 to 3 change because you only have to push up from 2nd gear and it will go into 3rd (sort of). Naturally, if you push the gear left-and-up, it will go into 1st but if you more or less to try to aim in the general direction of 3rd, you can not miss 3rd. I am not sure if the Ripshifter is ant shorter then the stock. But I do know a few people who have shorten them themselves.
I recommend it highly!! ...in fact, I don't think I know anyone who actually own a Rip and not like it.

a rip shift is a complete new shifter not just the stick it replaces the bridge linkage set up with a direct set up
gives shorter shift and a smaller gate and is near impossible to miss 2 to 3 shift
it is nothing like a standard shifter and is much more precise

this is a billet shifter but still works off the same disign as a standad one you can see the bridge linkage

RipShifts are GREAT, and would almost have to be a mandatory mod for any M6 owner.
Had one installed by Sonny about 4 months ago. In a word - FANTASTIC!!!
Although, takes a little bit of getting used to tho.

Best thing to buy for an M6!! Short shifter is a complete waste of time imho.
My understanding is there is some very precise machining along with some nice firm springs to align 3rd gear.

I have nothing but praise for the RipShift. In the past few years, some have been hesitant and not really wanted to go for it, but after driving a car with one fitted, they have been convinced immediately. IMO, it is a mod which alters plenty about the entire driving experience with an M6.
Still the best mod I've done for pure driving pleasure.

minimal lateral movment sticks out most IMO, takes a lill getting used to but its a GREAT learning curve :) find somone with one fitted and do the pepsi challenge, im sure you'll be keen to install.
and it is possible to miss 2nd to 3rd.............only cos hands were sweaty lol, musta been the mafless tune, gears n tex that went in with ripshift hehe
I still don't understand why people think the shorter the shifter handle, the better. Anything that makes your reach LONGER is BAAAAD!!! Ripshifter race version is the best!

Shortening the shift handle on my Rip Race made a huge improvement.
Seriously, if you don't shorten it you will bruise your knuckles on the
rearview mirror :)

Is yours fitted in a car or a submarine....:stick:
I agree that it could perhaps be 1/2' to 1" shorter, but it suits me to a tee.

A car of course
Yes, Brad @ Enhanced suggested that I get him to shorten it, as
I will hate the height. Sure enough, he was right :)

Yes I am noing dis 1, "ripshifter" this a hapenn whenna I wassa drivin really really fasta & whenna I was a changin da gears welll I "ripshifter" straighta out of the boxxa. It really freak ed me out.
Sorry long hot day at the beach - Ripshifter as you would probably know by now is a much better more precise shifter for the M6 box behind the LS1. I am sure if you type in ripshifter in the search button you will see heaps of info from members that have 1 installed. Or I see that the link to their website has been given, if you havnt checked it out already give it a squiz. Have a look at a forum sponsor near you & I am sure they will be able to supply & fit 1 for you if needed or answer any more questions you may have.
Cheers
PS - my Italian is not that great, I already know, but I am trying LOL

Hi Guys,
A friend of mine has a RIP Shift in his car and I took it for a long drive. It is not a short shifter as such, but I feel its longer than standard. It has a bent handle design, not a remote design so it gives you that lever feel.
Another friend of mine has a Billet Products Short Shifter. It is a 50% shorter shifter, that comes with a true remote design as per the original GMH. It comes with an adjustable shaft to. When you change through the gears, your hand is perfectly level, no up & down movement. Billet Products gives a LIFE TIME WARRANTY against breakage as well.
I'm not here to tell you which one you should buy, but, I've had the privilege in trying both and I now have made up my mind which one I'm going to buy.
Regards,
Vp Montana.

On the topic of Shifters guys, is there a replacement gear knob for my car (M6 VY SS) that doesn't have the saturn chrome section? Like off an earlier or later model? It's only because it's that smooth and slippery when i go to knock back third, I slip and end up changing my CD in the stacker instead haha.

Yeah VT/VX have leather ones like in my ute.
But, i think you'll find how the sit on is different. You'll notice when you rip the knob off there is a grove to line it up.
VT/VX is straight back and forward, the VY on have it at a 20 degree angle roughly.

Did you go race or street version Steve?
If you had a street version and fitted an HSV Shortshifter knob, then i could understand it, although with the race version, i'm almost certain they're 12mm longer. Perhaps Phonsey could chime in and confirm this for me?
I know my rip shifter handle (race) is longer than my brothers standard shifter in his vyss

My recollection with the ripshift is that the race version is shorter in the 2, 4 & 6 gears but sits higher than OEM in 1,3 & 5.
Due to the direct pivot on the lever into the top of the box.
Not that it matters  ... what are we talking about again?
Ah, that's right ... the worlds fastest ripshift equipped submarine. :jester:

Hmm fair enough.
Just reading the website, and for the street one, it says it'll be the same height as it was before, but neglects to mention anything about the race version. (unless i missed it?)
