Hi all

I was wondering if someone could help me?
I'm interested in buying a ute soon for around the house stuff also transporting my motorbike.
I'm not sure whether to buy a 4clinder Rodeo or Commodore Ute around 96-00. I read somewhere that rodeo's can be as thirsty as a commdore ute is this true? I don't want to waste money on a 4 clinder rodeo to find out they are very heavy on fuel because I may as well buy a commdore ute. Is anyone able to give me any advice it would appreciated!!

Thanks

Nick

Vehicles like Rodeo's are designed to carry heavier loads than the Commodre Utes and are geared accordingly. That means the fuel consumption on Rodeo's will be higher than you'd think for a 4 cylinder. You didn't say whether the Rodeo is a petrol or diesel, and whether the Commodore Ute is V6 or V8. Assuming petrol Rodeo and V6 Ute, you will fing that the fuel consumption is round about the same. In that case go for the Commodore if that's what you prefer anyway.

i look at it this way: if you want the looks get a ute, if you want practicality get a rodeo..

the rodeo will go anywhere,, where as the commodore isnt so good on crap roads/dirt tracks.. the ute will be more comfortable day in day out tho..

i had the same dilemma,, i went with the ute and im glad i did just cause its such a nice car.. but sometimes im like argh need to go here or need to do this should have got a rodeo..

i think there are goods and bads for each

Thanks Guys

My main concern is the fuel economy when considering which ute to get. I would prefer a Commdore Ute if a 4cylinder Rodeo is going to be as thirsty. Are the Diesels cheaper to run?

Thanks for the help!

i had a 2004 ra rodeo petrol 4 banger as a company car, i found it pretty thirsty because the motor is constantly struggling when transporting loads and going up hills, however if your going to use it as a motorbike transporter would it be better to get the rodeo as you can bang about the tray without worrying and the tray is 2400 long so you will get the bikes and other long stuff in easy

The rodeo is a heavier duty workhorse over the commodore with chassis and suspensions and ground clearances. As already said they can be thristy and I know mine has the 3.6L V6 and it can guzzle down the fuel but it can handle the tougher stuff than a Commodore. LPG or a diesel is an option with the rodeo (LPG being an aftermaket unit though). But the Commodore you do get is a friendlier driving enviroment and car type handling. Both are good load carriers also.

get a commodore ute and raise it 6 inches.. best of both worlds :stick:

The V6 rodeo's are quite thirsty, (late 90 models and onwards). The later models have the 3.6L V6 which is the Commodore motor (175kw version). The turning circles in the rodeos are terrible as are the tritons. The ride is quite firm in the rodeo's (unloaded) and rear seat leg space is minimal and suited to kids only. I can't comment on the economy or performance of the turbo diesels other than they are reliable. The rodeo aint much of a serious 4wd either if you have this in mind. Hope this helps.

I've taken mine off road a fair few times (its a 4x4) and never had any drama's with it. I can keep up with the bigger and better 4x4's without any worries plus I towed some out of the shit they get into. Decent tyres helps a lot. Oh BTW not to confuse anyone the rodeo has a detuned V6 its 152 kw (has a lower compression ratio). Handy for forced inductions if you can fit it that is.

Diesels are more economical & good torque. Thing to remember diesel vehicles are more expensive to buy, regos dearer. Diesel fuel is more expensive than petrol to buy. I done the sums you need to be doing a shit load of K's each year & keep it at least five years to get your moneys worth outta them.

I had a 89 rodeo ute.

No air con, no powersteer, 2.6 litre absolute rocket ship.
