View Full Version : LS1 to LS2 Engine Upgrade Wiring Issues

With the proliferation of new 6.0-litre engines in Australia, conversions are becoming common place. Thing is, there are some small issues to consider such as Knock, Cam and MAP sensor wiring, if wanting to retain the 6.0litre manifold in a non-drive by wire vehicle, you need to fit the likes of a 4-bolt Holley or other cable throttle body - which still leaves the concern of runnign the 'shortie' injectors.
Buth of these issues are easily sorted with our Knock, Cam and MAP sensor, and injector wiring looms. These are available from any VCM Suite/Performance equipped workshop around Australia.
Bottome line: Using these makes the conversion a breeze with the mechnic having only to drop in the 6.0-litre having swapped the LS1 valley knock sensors for the six litre items, bolt on the new throttle body and patch looms, and you're away.

Sweet kit there. whats it cost?
does this mean that you dont have to change reluctor wheels cause i heard that the 6L engine need a new reluctor wheel and workshops want like over 10,000 to fit one of these 4,000 engines cause of it. massive rip off thats like 500 bucks an hour labour LOL. or does this solve this too?

You get a lot more for your $10,000 than just installing an engine. A few forum sponsors for around the $10-$12k mark can do an L76 install - that price inclues the new crate engine and a few extras so you'll have around a 300 rwkw vehicle after the transplant.
- L76 Crate Engine
- Custom camshaft
- Pac 921 valve spring kit
- Com Pro Magnum lifters
- Comp Pushrods
- Reluctor Wheel change
- Cam Gear + Bolts
- Under driven Pulley Kit
- Over the radiator intake
- Holley 90mm throttle body
- Mafless tune
- Castrol engine oil
- Oil Filter
- Fuel Filter

What he said minus the ripoff comment.
Does this enable 58 tooth reluctor wheel motor to run with the ls1 pcm ?
If this is the case it should be good. I saw that one of the yank shops is also working on a similar kit as well.
cheers

Sweet..thanks.
No, this does not mean you do not have to change the reluctor wheel.
As you would know, there's the 2 different engine styles (L76/L98 and LS2), with one running a 24 tooth and the other 52. Unfortunately the only way to get these engines to work with the LS1 computer is to run the 24, hence the need to chyange this component in those instances.
Cost wise, the Cam/Knock/MAP loom is $275 and the injector patches are $275 per set.
Cheers.

crate engine delivered $4000
cam/springs/pushrods kit $1000
underdrive $250
otr $350

a thread said about 6 hours to pull down and rebuild for reluctor wheel.
call it 10 hours @ 120 an hour
add labor for $1200
thats $7500
still almost $5000 short of what those clowns you mentioned charge.
isnt this the reluctor wheel part for $14?

sorry man i think u got me wrong. ive only been into ls1 cars for a couple of months and im still learning.
im just saying that i could only find like 6000 worth of bits pplus labor and i didnt think anyone would pay 6000 to a shop for labor. maybe thats how much people expect to pay but personally i think there must be more to it. no one could rip someone that much coin. thats why i asked the question.
i also want to apologise to one guy from this thread who abused me thru private message. im not here to make enemies man, just here asking questions. sorry if i offended your mates. your wagon is sick and i wish i have a car that cool one day!!

I know first hand a brisbane engine shop a few weeks ago did the full conversion parts swap on a L76 ready to drop it in a VX in around 5 to 6 hours.
The work they did was
strip engine
pull out crank and put on new relucta wheel
put in new lifters
put in new cam
new ls1 knock sensors
Valve spring swap.
reassemble the engine
Engine ready to drop in car
All that was left was to put engine in car and connect all ancillaries.
Apparantly a very easy conversion and know where near as hard or time consuming as what i read on LS1.
I will be talking to them if and when i plan a L76 conversion into my GTO.
anyone got an idea of how easy/hard it is to upgrade a vz alloytec v6 to a LS2 ?

Much cheaper to sell it and buy a car with an 8 allready in it. You will need motor, box and diff for starters add pipes and wiring + extras .
I think your looking at some serious money for the swap.
cheers
