Matt and Pete @ APS Frankston have had the task of assembling the HQ stumpy over the past few weeks only in the spare time after work so its been a pretty full stint. They started with the 510 ci big block by taking it to the FRANKSTON ENGINE CENTRE and nutting out with Dave exactly how to tackle it. So it was 5.30am Starts for a solid 5 days getting around 1 and a half hours in before the days work. With the completion all that was required was throwing it in the HQ and bolting up the Glide. So a few more days and the quey should see the black top for a sesh @ the LS1 nationals.

I have spent the past few days with Jack a APS Frankston helping to install my Turbo kit. After having run in the l76 and Mal wood t56 we managed to turn the key today. Pretty exciting stuff because the dump pipe really barks when you give it the gas and with the goods that the l76 packs the kit should produce some solid numbers. Considering the last setup was rolling out 460rwkw with vp109 fuel on a cam only ls1 running 10psi.
I have from Full Throttle Performance a Boost Cooler to fit this week and as it is the first methanol/water injected turbo to be tuned here, we are confident that with turbo intake temps already quite cool, the boost cooler will give the engine a bit more tune capability. Running 12psi with vp109 should see the VY l76 into the 500rwkw territory. With only a diff to install and a tidy up under bonnet all going well we will be testing this friday nite at Calder Park providing the Crusty Night of World Records does not clash. Hell the pile of dirt you need to land a 350 plus foot jump would almost do that!

Not as loud as aspirated straight out pipes but very meaty sounding when under load. Keen to see how it goes on track.

Always look forward to catching up with you guys every year and you've never failed to pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat yet.
Mick and Frank are definitely a couple of the true gentlemen of the LS1 scene who just keep plugging away without making too much of a noise but continually producing the goods.

It will be good. The bon fire after the Nats is always a laugh and its good for the guys who want to kick on being the only sorce of heat and light in the whole of heathcote! Just make sure you have a locked vehicle to sleep in better still a hotel.. Because this is what can happen when your fast asleep in your swag...

Here is another car in the final stages of preparation, Franks VZ SS with a 2.3 litre whipple and 125 hp shot of gas. This was started yesterday for the first time since the nationals last year! Packing the bigger blower this time round we are expecting to see some soild numbers on the dyno backed up with some 10 sec passes!

10:57pm saturday night.......
Well the last minute rush to get all the cars ready for a test and tune tomorrow turned out to be right on the money. The VY SS was set up on the rollers for the final shake down.
Setting the E-boost was first on the adgenda which was a breeze. Highly recommend the E-boost. Then next up was checking the boost pressure. Had the set point values set to 10 and funny enough it reeled off 10 psi. All good, so we all had our bets on what she would roll up and first time out it got 520rwkw! This was using BP 98 octane as well!
With a bit of fine tuning and setting in the Boost cooler Mick ran it up again but this time with 12 psi.
We thought the exhaust housing might be a bit small for the litres of the engine and it was because the waste gate could not keep up with the exhaust manifold pressure causing a mild boost spike. It only boosted to 14 psi, but pumped out 603 rwkw! Now this is all on a near stock l76 from holden. Bloody impressive! After sorting a few settings on the E-boost we managed to curb the spiking issue by knocking a couple psi out and consistant 570+ rwkw was the outcome. Not bad at all!
