Read in an old article that the VX SS had t/c on the manual version, just wondering if this was accurate? I'm assuming there's a switch on the console? Just wondering b/c I have a VU and whilst the low traction light is on the dash I'm reasonably certain I don't have this function.

VU SS does not have traction control....dont need it either. Aparently the system wasnt the greatest at controling wheelspin anyway

Give me a decent lsd over traction control (i know not the same things but I prefer to control traction with MY foot than a computer!!)

I totally agree. Might be handy in the wet though, or when you throw the keys to someone else.

I find the traction control in the (VX) manaul is too jerky and can make the car jump when you don't want it to. It's especially worse in wet weather as it can be hard to do u-turns and right hand turns etc with out it pulling traction. It seems to be a little more controlled in the autos, and I believe it has improved in the newer models. I would rather not have it in the VX.

for manuals... the traction off is underneath the headlights control

more info...not avail on utes ...see this thread Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=38200)

Thanks for clarifying :). Do all SS manuals VX up have t/c as standard? HSVs? I work in a Holden dealer panel shop and have never noticed this on the manuals. Will deffo have a browse on Tues.

sedans should have it, a few i test drove had it, all autos do, and manual utes dont. my mums vz ss has it (manual), and so does my dads WH which is honestly needed as its got some balls especially with a stally in a 234/236 cammed car

TC is standard on the VX SS auto & manual, would think this would carry on through the range. HSV also a standard feature.

Only VX SS not to have TC will be the ex chasers, as they did not have it.

I have never had a problem with the TC in the SS or the R8, both are VX, 1 auto 1 manual

No utes have traction control except for the VZ Maloo and the new VE utes.

I was in the habit of turnin it off in my old vx ss when starting the car up... With the cam, 277rwkw, & cushioned button clutch it was crap. More dangerous than safe, just use to stop the throttle and stop all momentum. Since the vx days though the TC has certainly improved across the commodore sedan range which is good.

Is there anyway to have T/C switched off by default instead of on? Or to disable it entirely?

I also turn it off first thing after starting 90% of the time. Except on really wet days when I leave it on occasionally.

Yep its doable by disabling all the spark retard in the tune and unplugging the throttle relaxer from memory. Actually just reducing the amount of timing that traction control triggers to pull helps turn it into a much more tolerable system. A mate of mine did some work with turning into a launch control with some success but it still couldn't beat a good driver and was useless in the wet.
