G'day all just wondering if anyone knows what model commodore ute was the last to come with a live axle rear end, before the independent suspension was introduced.
Also did this model come with a gen3 from the factory, the reason why I ask is that I am trying to decide what model to transplant my engine into and turn it into a quarter mile car.
Thanks in advance

Last live rear axle model I believe was the VG which is the VN variant of the ute, the IRS axle defiantely came in for the VU series and that was also the introduction of the beloved LS1.

There is quite a few transplants of LS1 engine into live axle vehicles on this site so check them out if your concerned or interested

VS utes have a live axle. IRS was introduced on VQ statesman but did not become standard until VT

the VT in the sedans and VU in the utes were the first commodores to come standard across the range with IRS...

on earlier models it was used right down to the VQ stato (i think thats like a vn or vp)... some cars through the VN - VS range will have IRS, others will be live axle...

the pov pack executive stuff kept the live axle right upto the last of the VS

This thread seems to be branching off away from the original UTE request....
ALL VG-VS utes have live axles.
ALL VB-VS wagons have live axles.
ALL VB-VN sedans have live axles.
SOME VP-VS sedans (Commodore) had either standard or optional IRS, the rest had live axles.
ALL VQ on Statesman models had IRS.
ALL VT onward models, so sedan, wagon, Statesman and ute, but NOT VY/VZ one tonner/Crewman models had IRS.
ONLY VY/VZ one tonner/Crewman since VT have had live rear axles.
Hope that sorts out the above mix of answers...
