Have made a very hard decision this week. We are trading the Z in on a LX Captiva Diesel. Gonna be a huge change, but the running costs are going to be a lot less and it will be a more practical car for where we live.
Looking for good points from any Captiva owners out there to make the transision easier.
Has any one done any exhaust or mods to these to give them a bit more poke.
Also can some one tell me what globes they rin in their head lights, as I want to put my HID's straight in it.
Has any one done any stereo instals or mods.
Cheers

G'Day mate... I have a Captiva Maxx... VERY SWEET CAR! Just got back from the southwest, at one point, Av speed was 105Kms and Av Fuel was 8.2 (resett at the 100Kmsp/h marker just outside mandurah, checked the totals t Margaret River)... city its not the best but I only have 1000Kms on the clock so still running in. Took the beast up the the transmissions lines in Mundaring and surprised some very experienced 4*4ers with the captiva ability... its VERY VERY rough terrain, yeah sure I took it VERY slow and was guided over some very tricky ground by a few guys but she handeled very well and almost out performed some 4 * 4, the tribecca could not cross some of the ground out there, decent control rocks... VERY awesome indeed.
Overall I sing the praise of the Maxx... yeah sure there is some faults but they are being fixed... overall I would buy another one... Oh and ona steep hard clay and pebble hill with pot holes, the ESP works wonders. A hilux slid over the same hill where as the maxx did not slip at all.... everyone was VERY surprised!
Very comfy car to... after the trip down south we feel relaxed and no aches and pains (except maybe self induced hehehe)
You will be happy!
Cheers

Thanks mate that is what I like to hear. I have another 4x4 for the rough stuff but it is good to hear that they are still capable of off road stuff. I have not seen many coments on their off road driving, mostly highway and city reviews.
Cheers

Yeah me to... mate was kind enough to bring a tow rope incase i got stuck... but the hilux and myself were well matched on the course we drove... of course the hilux is a better 4*4... but my ground clearance was almost the same (within MM) but on the slipery stuff the cappie handled (with ESP or Decent Control) better than the hilux! As I said some experienced drivers (not just my mtes) were surprised with its ability... oh and I have never been off road before friday... not even as a passanger... so I did well to :-p
You will enjoy it mate... feel free to PM me if you ever want to... and when I have the pics I will try to post them up

I have a diesel LX and no complaints so far, although the economy has let me down a bit, I average around 11.3 per tank, mostly cruising to and from work in 80 and 90 zones, not much stop start, and about 1/5 of the time I'd say is city type driving. I never expected the labelled 8.7, but was thinking more low to mid 10's for the driving I do. Maybe it's just how I drive. It's just under 16,000k's and has had no faults to date, was serviced last week and nothing bad came out of that. Not sure about the HID lights, but I use the driving lights a bit and they are pretty bright, good thing is they point down so don't annoy other drivers, though I've found the headlights themselves can bug drivers in front of me, they tend to catch thier rear view mirror a bit, should have mentioned that on the service. Another thing i forgot with the service is that the grey plastic bumper trim on the front bar has a small patch that is beginning to fade, like the late 90's barinas you see getting around with white wheel arch trims. Haven't gone off road yet, might hit the beach next summer when the car is a bit older and I'm not as worried about scratches, chips etc, not that I should worry too much, it's a lease car.

Can you tell me what globes are in the high and low beams? I'm getting a nudge bar so will most likely fit spot lights if my HID's dont fit, as we do alot of night driving through Roo country. I think it might make it look a bit :spew:, I havn't seen one with spotties.

Should get the bull bar from ecb (east coast bull gars)for the roos, be better than a nudge bar. PM me your email address if you want good photos of one fitted.

Been looking around, half tempted to try the addon for the diesel to get it to 135kw, with up to 15% economy increase, supposedly. Bit pricey but so don't think I will look any further into it. I like the S3X head and tail lights, maybe look into sourcing some if I buy it at the end of the lease.

Interesting about the off road abilities. I'm keen to take ours on to stockton beach but not sure how it would handle with the 20s on it. Later this year I'm also going to get the exhaust and tune done on it. Hoping for around the 190+kw mark.

Well I have not been on the soft stuff... but am told they handle well on the beach... sand dunes are not so great unless your experienced offroader...
but the ground clearance and esp technologies are bloody great... on the transmission line (lakes - just before Northam/York) she handled bloody well and that stretch of counrty is VERY rough terrain!!

Hey all, I have just done the same traded the Z in for a 60th Anniversary diesel Captiva.
Best thing I have done, fuel economy around town is about 10L/100km highway around 9's. I also tow a Jayco Expanda (about 1650kg) behind it an average high 12's low 13's depending on road conditions.
Have had it off road a couple of time and if you remember to keep horses for courses you will be right. A few people complain about the road height but the only thing I feel holding it back are the tyres, a decent set of off road tyres will make all the difference. I am still learning what it can and cant do off road but running around for work, scouts and the kids at rugby it has done every thing I need it to do.
I have only had one issue and that was the holden dealer installing blue tooth, three visits and three months later it is now fully operative, but other than that cant tell you how happy I have been with it.

I took my LX diesel on Stockton beach at the weekend and once I got the tyre pressures right it went pretty well. I had 12-14 psi in them and it was good. Goes much better with T/C off. Never once bogged which supprised me heaps.
I did have a problem though with the 4wd cutting out after brief periods. The warning light came on and it just went back to 2wd and stopped. After turning the engine off fpr a short period (appx 5 min) the problem sorted and went back to 4wd again. Tend to think it must have been a heating thing as the short brakes seemed to overcome this each time.
This happened a number of times and was a bit painful to be honest.
I read later that this may have something to do with the oil in the rear diff thinning when it gets hot. Has anyone else had any issues with this and if so is there anything that can be done to overcome this?
This was my first venture onto the sand and it was a lot of fun despite the issue.
My LX is about 17 months old and has about 40,000 Km on it. No major issues just a few little squeaks etc. I always get about 10.8lt to the 100Km around town, and much more on the open road.
Considering what it is and the cost I think it's pretty good value overall.
Holden service department as usual is the big let down from my point of view. They seem to stuff me around with anything they do, thats why they only ever get to see the car if its a waranty issue. They have done this with any Holden I have ever let them near, (eg: overtightened seal's leading to requiring a tow, rear floor full of water when collected after they had it, and general poor attention to detail or instructions).
Quiet happy with the LX when you consider what it was built and designed for. Would love to sort out the above 4wd issue on the sand but!
Any assistance would be great?

We bought a 60th Anniversary diesel Captiva in June 08 and so far so good. It has clocked 13K and economy around town (Melbourne) varies between 9 to 11 litres per 100kms. it is an improvement after an '02 petrol Mitsubishi Pajero.
In regard to the headlight globes in the Cappy you will find they are a H7 which is a single filament globe as opposed to the older H4's with both low and high beam in the one housing. I have H7's in my 02 Vectra and a quick and easy upgrade was to fit the Calibre H7 globes from Supercheap.

Gerry
