Yep, just finished. Some consortium wants to build a strip
here, Port Adelaide was mentioned. Apparently government

I completely agree with you Shaun. I know full well your thoughts towards certain parties on this forum and I agree with your thoughts 100% as they are totally justified :)
I was there in the 40degree heat with my 17 month old son but could only stay for a short while for his sake. But yes, I still made the effort to appear unlike some tossers on here who sit behind the keyboard and think they are too holy to attend such a demonstration....

I also agree with Shaun, I was down there all day along with a lot of other people to show our support for a new strip. With all the talk coming from the ls1 turbo crowd lately about timeslips etc you would have thought they would have been there with bells on!

I WAS THE ONLY GUY ON THIS FORUM THAT WAS AT THAT MEETING FROM 9AM SUPPORTING DRAG RACING AND LEFT AT CLOSING TIME AROUND 5PM...........(some of us walk the walk as well as talk the talk) go and read back some of the other threads about A.I.R and look at all the whinging going on by members, i bet 99% of those members whinging about there being no track wernt there either TO SUPPORT.
thanks to the forum members that did show as it was much appriciated:cheers:
ANYHOW IF ANYONE IN SA HAS THE RIGHT TO WHING ID SAY IT WOULD BE ME PLUS THE OTHER SMALL % THAT I CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND FROM SA THAT SPEND THE BUCKS TRAVELING MONTH AFTER MONTH TRYING TO GET SOME TESTING & RACING IN not sitting around like the rest of SA whiinging and whining that theres no track OH OH POOR ME:bawl:

I will say guys, i was a bit disappointed with the turnout on the day at Port Adelaide, after speaking to many so called drag racers that couldnt even make the effort to show up, and support drag racing in SA.
It was great that guys like Shaun, who travel interstate on regular basis's can even get up early in the morning, pack there vehicle ready for transit, and put there vehicle on display for the public to see, and show the support for the drag racing community.
Shaun is one of a handful of drag racers who actually travel interstate, for testing and tuning, well done Shaun and continue supporting drag racing in Australia.
It was great to see yourself there Solid, BradSV8, HRT666 and many others

NO GARETH, it WAS from 11am-4pm 10th march down there at port Adelaide supporting the sport you pretray to love so much!:kapow:
I was merly pointing out it would be on at 6pm not 7pm. So maybe a few more people could watch it.
As for not being at Pt Adelaide for this Rally? I was moving house that day. This was planned a long time before this rally so it was just bad timing.
I am 100% behind a new track or even just the old one opened back up (fixed of course). Just because I didnt attend a rally (which I couldnt do) doesnt mean I am against it!

As a business venture whats the problem? There seem to be a few hundred people (at least from the media reports) interested in putting something together for South Australia. Get together, put in $50K each, establish a board of directors, and build the bloody thing yourselves if you want it so bad. There's obviously enough sharp minds in this thread to run the whole thing with the right fiscal injection and business plan :teach:
Time to get the chequebooks out lads and make it happen for SA lads. Beats whining about it and asking for handouts
Give something back to the sport you all love so much, rather than expecting it to give to you :)
To start the ball rolling, our company will offer the first lot of funding, once we have been over the prospectus

Correct me if im wrong, isn't the ANDRA headquarters in SA?? After talking to the few SA teams who travel the distance to race here in WA there should be some sort of movement to gather the backing for construction of a track, tho government support is required if not nearly essential. It's great to see those that are trully passionate about the sport trying to do something about it & the SA folk who do race here are some of the most committed racers in the game.

they already have the 25m to build the track they just need the government to give them the land to build on(there not asking government for the land for free either just for the government to give them a /permit/place to buy and start building)
this is what the rally was all about showing the government the people numbers so they could see how important a track was to the SA population

dont take it personally Gareth as you and martin are not singled out like it may have looked.
ive been on the war path now for 2 weeks with anyone from SA that is serious about drag racing and wasnt at the Port Adelaide meeting but has even MUTTERED the words NO TRACK

Put some money up, or some effort into something to do with drag racing. Standing around in the sun for a day - although a noble cause - doesnt achieve a single or solitary thing. Roc Puccini in the interview was the only positive that seemed to come out of that day. At least you could have prearranged an interview or got some statistics whatever to give the reporter :)
And of course we arent serious about drag racing its a hobby, and some fun....isnt that what its supposed to be?
WAR PATH = NO RESULTS
Do something constructive
and heres a bit of business leadership for you -
1) Contact Anna and offer assistance during your free weekdays
2) Organise some leaflet drops for Johanssen
3) Collect signatures on an ongoing petition
4) Arrange to take a decision maker (government) for a passenger ride in your car
5) Promote a positive outlook on drag racing
Now that level of commitment would be decent
solid
26-03-2008, 11:27 AM
So Martin, what exactly are you doing to support the construction of a new track?
If you werent at the rally which is presently the best form of support for a new track, what "different way" are you approaching the construction of a new track?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some might think standing in Pt Adelaide and SHOUTING ON A FORUM will attract $25 Million worth of investment into the state from corporates. Others might go about it a different way

Shaun was quite committed on the day and not posting on the internet, instead he was at the rally supporting his passion...

It was very hot the day of the meeting, I just went down there for a short time because I wanted to sign the petition, I was busy that day and it is about 45kms each way but I did want to support the cause.
Has anyone got any ideas about anything else that people could do to help?
Any ideass about anyone in power's (perhaps an M.P.?) email addresses that we could spread around and solicit people to email requests or complaints to help to get something done?

AIR has been sold back to Keith Williams who is the man who built the track in 1972. Bob bought the track off Keith in 1982 and now Keith has bought it back from Bob. Street meets only are being scheduled in August or so this year. This information was obtained from Auto Action Magazine recently :)

I had to reschedule my V8 Race Experience which was supposed to
be this month due to track resurfacing at AIR, not sure if this is
related to the drag strip though. I am now doing it on the 8th of
June. Their website is currently under construction as well

I have heard from two separate scorces that the drag strip at AIR has been re surfaced and will be up and running for street meets before the end of this year but ANDRA will not be sanctioning any events there. It will be independant.

I heard that they tried to lay the new surface over the top of
the old one, not sure if this is true though?
They ended up moving my V8 experience to Malalla, and when I spoke
to them on the phone they said nothing will be up and running at
AIR this year (not sure how much they know though).
Got two extra laps for being farked around so much, ok I suppose,

With the mounds around the bowl it would be a bit hard to see as you drove past. Ive been told a dozer fell through part of the circut and they have been waiting for better weather before they fix it up..... Other than that its all meant to have been done. As I said earlier fingers crossed for everyone we get it back in December!

If there are people working on the site it would not be locked up (can't be). Drive straight on in and walk up and observe.
Just a thought.
Anyways now a dozer has fallen through the circuit.....is it just me or is everybody fed up with the BJ bullshit.
BTW not having a shot at you Gareth by any means just sick of the lies from BJ. BJ is still in a legal war with ANDRA and CAMS and unless that is resolved "NOTHING" is going to happen. Never had anything to do with the track....that (timing lights & track) could have been fixed years ago.
