local paper 2nd page P plater story winging he will loose license for too slow.
traveling on dual lane hwy in RHL doing 65 in 90 zone. got done for to slow and not keeping left. He said his mum said be careful so he was blah blah blah bunch of other bull.
anyway i read this and said YES finally, bad luck sucker. i travel this way everyday and there are alway too many cars going slow in the RHL, the left lane is actually faster, so sick of it. they should sit here everyday and pickup a few hundred of them.
good on the cop who did it! i bet the cop sat behind him for a while and he wouldn't move over for a number of K's. but the paper make out he was hard done by, rubbish a good job i say...should know the rules seeing on red P's...
maybe the story might get rid of a few more RHL hogs
Oh same stretch of road has a merge from the right to the hwy, ppl try to merge at 20kph into a 90 kph zone, stupid.

this is my pet hate when driving... i do believe you should lose points depending on how far UNDER the speed limit you are going on a freeway/expressway/motorway.
the reason Sydney roads are crap is because ppl like to sit in all three lanes at the same speed. Drives me NUTS

In SA, if the posted speed limit is 80 km/ph or greater, it is an offence to travel in the right hand lane UNLESS overtaking or turning right. There are signs indicating such at commencement of 80+ speed limit areas - on multi laned roads.

Under Australian law I'm 90% sure you CAN be booked for going just as far UNDER the speed limit as you can OVER, it's just that not many cops enforce it.

It is the same in NSW but it doesnt stop people. It is one of my pet hates too. Especially on a 3 lane highway. It starts with the people that sit in the middle lane not doing the limit. There is a left lane for you wankers! Get over in it.
The rule reads must keep left unless overtaking but people seem to think that the middle lane is far enough left. When they do this it just clogs up the right lane because people do the right thing and not over take on the inside lane.

booking this sort of stuff more often would actually reduce speeding and anger on the road.
how many times to you get pissed off and plant it at the next gap, a risk at getting caught..wouldn't happen if they followed the rules. driving would be more enjoyable if all the rules were enforced, not just speeding.

Same in Victoria. Except people don't comply and Police don't enforce it. Kind of hard to catch a right hand lane hog with a camera I guess.

The not keep left over 80 kays I can understand (one my pet hates too), but as for being done for travelling UNDER the limit?.. Come on.
I dunno which state that was in but in NSW there is absolutely no offence for travelling too slow. The closest I could think of would be neg driving, but there would have to be other circumstances or conditions to prove that.

I hate people in right lanes when they're now overtaking on roads 80km or more!!! I think these people are ignorant & incosiderate!
I don't think he was booked for going too slow, i'd say he was done for being in the right lane when not over taking which is an offence in NSW what it's in a 80km zone or more.
I know someone that got done for the same thing even though it was 1am and no other cars were around. I said sucked in to him! "That'll teach ya" LOL

MY PET HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WANKERS THAT DRIVE 20-30 kays under the limit on highways!!
And whoever said that it'd reduce speeding and anger if we solved this problem is dead set spot on. i cant count how many times ive been boxed in by these wankers and ive been pissed off enough to hit the pedal as soon as i find a gap!! It is basically the only time i ever go over the limit!
Shits me even more when you look ahead of them and there is NOTHING ahead of them to make them drive that slow!! NOTHING! Makes me wanna cry, then beat the shit outta them. I often beep as i pass em to give em abit of a wake up. Half dont even realise! in their own f*kn world!!
and you gotta love when two of these idiots are side by side on a two lane road and you cant do jack shit bout it...
The other day, 2 lane road, 80k posted limit, both idiots doing 65 for AT LEAST 4-5kms .... i was bordering on a suicidal/murderous rampage ... (oh we just came of the lights so NOT A SINGLE CAR AHEAD OF THEM not raining, not dark, NOTHING!! NO REASON AT ALL)

What a bunch of agros you guys are. "I was forced to exceed the speed limit and change 3 lanes to go around these people etc etc blah blah"
For goodness sake calm down on the road!! What about when you drive at the speed limit in the right lane, only to have some speed jockey riding your bumper flashing lights, tooting horns and sticking up a finger. Just how "fast" is the fast lane? As fast as your car can go?
I reckon it is more dangerous to be forever pulling into the left lane after every car you overtake only to have to pull out again 200 metres further on to pass the next P plater or whatever. Slow lane on the left, speed limit lane on the right. Particularly on expressways in the cities, where there is a lot of traffic. Out of the city, certainly pull over after passing.
Hand grenades, nudge bars - WTF. Chill out guys. If you have such an agressive attitude on the road YOU are the one who should be off the road.

The RHL should only be available to Holden Vehicles V6 and above...
Everyone else should be made to go in the other lane as punisment for buying the wrong car.
My pet hate is those stupid mopeds that sneak up the middle of the cars at the lights and sit right in front of my V8. Think about it for a second!!! That light is going to go green and I am going to go not wait for hour for you to get up to your top speed of 50 kms a hour (on a down hill run with a 40 km a hour wind behind them)

Following are two of the road rules in WA. Basically it's illegal to drive just in the right hand lane, and it's illegal to do less than 20km/h under the speed limit on a freeway. There are of course exceptions to the rule. Mostly these rules are not enforced which is what causes agravation to other road users.
3.4.2 Roads with 2 or more lanes
If the speed limit that applies to a road is 90km/h or higher or there are ‘KEEP LEFT
UNLESS OVERTAKING’ signs installed, you are not permitted to drive in the right lane
of these roads unless:
you are turning right or making a ‘U’ turn and giving a right turn signal;
you are overtaking another vehicle;
the adjacent left lane is a special purpose lane such as a bus lane or bicycle lane;
the left lane is a left turning lane and you are travelling straight ahead; or
the other lanes are congested with traffi c.
3.12.3 Appropriate speeds for freeway driving
Freeways are designed for higher speed traffi c fl ow than that allowed on standard
roads. You must not exceed the speed limit indicated on signs.
Driving too slowly can cause dangerous situations on a freeway, so you are
required to travel at a speed that is no more than 20 km/h below the posted
speed limit (unless traffi c, weather or visibility conditions prevent you from doing
so). That is, if the speed limit is 100km/h, you are not allowed to travel slower than
80km/h (unless the road, weather, visibility, traffi c and other conditions require you
to travel slower).

well done mac06 - beat me to it. straight out of the RTC.
it always amazes me that the RHL on Mitchell Fwy comes to a complete stand still around Hepburn Ave northbound in peak hour traffic when there are no merging lanes in to it, when it should be the most free flowing lane

It's all well and good to say you are travelling in the RHL at the speed limit. But your speedo may show 110, i might be behind you and my speedo shows 105..........so I need you to move over, because i don't believe you are travelling at the speed limit. Similar situation is when someone in the RHL thinks they are travelling at the speed limit, but they are not using or don't have cuise control. So their speed might drift from 110 to 100 to 115 to 105 etc because they are not paying attention. This annoys the crap out of me. There is NEVER any need to drive in the RHL unless traffic is heavy, regardless of the speed limit or if "KEEP LEFT" signs are posted or not. It's just common courtesy that all drivers should show to one another.

Yep - and very few do it.
You should always drive in the left most lane you can. You see tools in light traffic driving in the right hand lane of a 4 lane freeway with 3 empty lanes before you.
As for OldManMunro above - it doesn't matter if you are doing the speed limit or not, if the lane to your left is vacant then you are not keeping left.

Wrong Old man! I think u'll find that the law says stay left unless overtaking. Not its ok to sit in the right lane if ur too old too guide the car back to the left lane before u reach a car that is 200 metres down the road.
Get to the left,
if some one is going faster than u, even over the limit, the safest thing u can do is get outta the way,

i had a retard doing 85 in a 100 in the right lane (4lane highway) i couldnt get round so i was highbeaming (say wat you will, i dont care) for at least 5km before i found a gap and went round her (without speeding, gettin to 100 was enough) and i look over, and she doesnt even look at me, that tells me she had NO IDEA IN HELL what was happening around her!!

How do most of you guys handle a scenario like this, I travel the Hume ever month or so relatives in Northern Victoria, 110 zone so usually have the cruise set pretty close maybe a few km over, can't afford a ticket,
I often find I am in the left lane and catch up to someone doing maybe 105,
so swing out to pass then find they speed up and maybe sit on the same speed as I am doing, do you sit there pacing them, therfore you are hogging the right lane, and take ages to get past or speed up and risk getting pinged, same thing happens on overtaking lanes at times, pull out and they speed up.

It roots the carrying capacity of major roads and for that reason alone it should be enforced more stringently.
Road infrastructure is expensive and the money is wasted when quite adequate roads are spoiled in this way.
It also makes it more infuriating for drivers who get pinged for applying a brief bit of extra pedal just to cut through these mobile road blocks in an effort to actually travel at the posted limit.
Failure to keep left should be enforced, if only because it is often the offence "causing" (well, precipitating) a short burst of speeding by other drivers, which is dangerous (from a simple physics perspective at least).
It is enforced so rarely that it actually gets in the paper - imagine if speeding laws were enforced like that!
God knows every other road rule is enforced to the hilt and beyond. I suppose the reason is that it takes a lot of observation time for each occasion, and you don't get to fang around chasing them, but the failure to enforce it is a mistake that should be rectified.

Well the State Troopers in Virginia and North Carolina have worked out a system for keeping people from sitting in the fast lane (lane 2 in their speak).
They just check the speed of cars in that lane and basically leave the ones in lane 1 alone.
Canada seems to have a similar approach, you can drive the 401 for hours and not see a car in the left lane for more than a few seconds, get out, pass, get back right.
And of course in Germany with the unlimited autobahns if you were to dally in the left lane too long you would have someone up your arse flashing lights etc that your hair would curl.
Aussie drivers are very undisciplined compared to many other countries, but better than about just as many more....lol

My point was there was open road for miles in front of them and me sitting behind the person in the outside lane for probably 2km or more. He/she was obviously in a daze and in that time never checked their mirrors once - top marks for driving skills!! :(
What was the most annoying is that they were perfectly keeping pace with the car in the left hand lane so I couldn't get past. If the tosser in the right hand lane was doing even 1 or 2 kmh different speed to the person in the left hand lane I could eventually have got through on one side or another.
Just plain lazy or unskilled driving.........
BTW it was 5kmh under on my speedo which means according to my GPS (which wasn't on) it was closer to 10kmh under.

About time we hear about someone getting booked for this offence.
It is dangerous going slow in the right lane because cars behind will start to zig zag from lane to lane to try and get around and put themselves and others around them at risk.
It also causes road rage and on top of that helps traffic build up when it should otherwise be free flowing.
One day when the government has exhausted all avenues and the speed limits are all at ridiculous snail pace they will realize that the answer to most traffic accidents is
DRIVER EDUCATION
All they have to do is look at other countries like Germany and Austria and see what it takes to get a drivers licence.
It is sad to see so many people incompetent controlling a big heavy piece of metal on the road.
It has made my day hearing about this person getting booked.
There is hope yet !!!

This thread is all making a lot of sense and I agree with all sentiments on here.
When on country roads I tend to mix it up a bit when possible (eg highway up to the Riverland, back roads on the way home) and on the highway you'll get a lot of people doing 80 or 90 in 110 zones for no apparent reason, but on the back roads you don't see as many slow people but they go slower... sometimes 60, even 40. Probably drunk farmers on the way home from the pub (tongue in cheek,) on windy, narrow two lane roads, with few straight roads for overtaking. And when you do they're practically going backwards (sneak up + fly past approach, quite often necessary on windy roads.)
I say start bookin' 'em for going too slow, not keeping left etc, and watch speeding fines and related accidents go down!

This is one of the reasons I like driving in the USA. Most interstates (freeways) have a speed limit sign say 70 MPH and below that a MINIMUM speed, normally about 50MPH or so.
Those of us that travel on the tollways of Sydney in the mornings and have to deal with cranes travelling along at 60 K's or so would appreciate this.
BTW why did they change the law about driving cranes in peak hour, anybody know?

I know alot of you guys live in far more conguested cities than Canberra. But I tell you it's frustrating here in Canberra with people doing the same thing. I cop it on my way to work and home every single freak'n day and it seems to be getting worse.
It's a sign of the times as the motorist population increases on road systems that have not kept pace. We have alot of bottle neck roads here where you have 2 lanes merge into 1 all over the place and alot of motorists here do not know the rules of engagement (merging lol).
But like just about everyone on this threat people that sit in the right hand lane on dual lane freeways, highway, parkways etc and are either going 15 to 20k's slower or matching the speed of the car next to them it is a road safty hazard.
I know when I was tought to drive (through a driving school) in NSW the old guy instructing me said that if you ever go to pass someone on the right and they either speed up or are matching your speed the correct thing to do is slow, (providing it is safe to do so) and indicate to merge back in behind them to allow faster moving trafic to continue. This is something I practice most of the time, all other times I just increase my speed and pass them then merge to the left.
Roads with signs posted on dual/multi lane freeways (Keep Left Unless Overtaking) ARE inforceable and you can be fined. Does it happen? not all that often especially when the trafic is very light. I have driven to Sydney and on many occasions seen small 4 cyclinder cars (low power models) pull out infront of fast moving traffic on approach to a large hill to go around some trucks. While sitting in long line of traffic (doing 60k's in a 110 zone) waiting for the little car to reach the top I noticed a highway patrol in the que. Once we all got around it and continued on our way I followed the police car doing about 115 and they used the message bar between the flashing lights on top and gave me a message "CHECK SPEED --- CHECK SPEED" and made me slow to 110.
They did nothing about situation that occured earlier.. I have many more stories of some silly things that I have seen on the roads... Some people are just oblivious to the fact there are other road users other than themselves.

It's nice to see your username precedes you OldManMunro, I will forever look out for your posts to steer clear of them, as you are obviously one of these moving roadblocks we are talking about, I'm not sure where exactly "The Shire" is, but I sure as hell hope it's nowhere near where I live mate.

Shame the drivers on the West Coast of the US didn't know this. We were amazed at the amount of drivers that blatantly sat in the left hand land in the US, this was California, Nevada, Arizona and Washington States! There were a heap of people just undertaking all the time. Mind you there was much less 'road rage' visible on the roads when we were driving over there compared to here, but then I suppose you never know who has a concealed carry permit over there and is having a really bad day...

when you are in a rush, someone doing 95 really starts to piss you off when you wanna just set your cruise to 103 and get to your destination ... NO speeding, just do the fricken limit not cruise at your leasure and not get outta peoples way!
You ARE Speeding , the limit is 100, your doing 103 on purpose, just because its not far enough over the limit to get fined, that makes it ok , am i right ?!
Maybe YOU should have left 5 mins earlier :)
i had a retard doing 85 in a 100 in the right lane (4lane highway) i couldnt get round so i was highbeaming (say wat you will, i dont care) for at least 5km before i found a gap and went round her (without speeding, gettin to 100 was enough) and i look over, and she doesnt even look at me, that tells me she had NO IDEA IN HELL what was happening around her!!
15 under is within the limits of whats been stated, therefore they were well within their rights to do that speed(albiet not in the right lane), I'd ignore you to on your drive by , more than likely youd be ready to wave your hands at them :1peek: and probably thinking the same, look at this retard behind me flashing his lights, he can go to hell :)
I'm not picking on you or anyone, just as others have stated its funny to see the irationalism behind peoples views and thier *justification* of two wrongs must make a right, sure im no angel myself i just dont lose sleep over it.
Were now in an environment were big brother is waiting with camera's etc at every stage they can, in some states, 5km's an hour over is enough to be fined so ofcourse your going to get ppl sititng under the posted speeds to *make sure*, not everyone has cruise control.
So much rage and anger on the roads these days, you will never make everyone happy.

Considering most speedos overread I think you'll find that his 103 on the speedo actually equates to 100 real.

While it's within the legal limits to do up to 20km/h under the posted speed limit, the point is it's illegal to just drive in the right hand lane. That is the cause of much of the road rage and if selfish people are not fined for doing that then they'll simply continue to drive in that way. Fine them, get their attitude to other road users corrected and we'll have far less road rage and, as a result, a lot less accidents.

Used to travel the Western Ring Road all day everyday,
Always guaranteed some idiot to be sitting in the RHL doing 70-80 kays in the 100 zone..
These idiots might not check there rear view, but when you use the sneak up quickly attack with the drivers wheel on the white line making the vibration noise with your foggies on and lights squarely in their drivers side mirror.. they quickly crack the shits and move over.. then abuse you..
Haha..
Works though.
Glad they got booked for it too!

yes set at 103 is 100 ... AND even if i was set at 100 they are still doing an indicated 95 .... in the right lane ... where the left lane is probably quicker .... and with no1 infront!! CANNOT BE JUSTIFIED
And if it was as simple as just leaving 5mins earlier, the concept of late wouldnt exist would it?
You might ignore me ... but those people did not even know what was happening around them!
15 under may well be within the limit ... but when without reason, in the right lane and holding people up ... its just stupid and inconsiderate!!
Im talking about those people that are in there own world ....
I was once coming up to a set of lights (1 lane) where a lady in a 4wd was stationary at the red light ... It turned green when i was a good 30-40meters away ... i beeped ... beep*beep ... beeeeepppp* (all as im still gettin closer, and shes just setting there) ... i STOPPED behind her ... BEEEEEEEEP .... FKN NOTHING ... went through the green cycle and it went red ... now you can imagine i was fuming ... but kept my cool ... let it go and had a laugh bout it with a mate in the car ... guess what happened when it next went green? lol its like someone had left the car sittin there with no1 in the drivers seat!!
Similar situation happened to me another day, but when we finaly got outta this situation and i overtook the lady, she looked at me like I WAS IN THE WRONG ... i woulda loved to have a quiet conversation with her to understand how it was MY FAULT she was in her own world while the light went green and she held up a row of cars
