I have a 2007 SVZ Wagon. Yeah I know it's only a 3.6 but with the factory extras it sure is an improvment over my much loved VN (also a V6).
I am wanting to tow about 1800kg. I have a 2100kg towbar installed and all of the heat shields as recommended by Holden. The only other requirement as stated by them is to fit pump-up shockers. I had Polyair bags installed on my VN (and HJ before that) and they certainly assisted with maintaining ride height when towing. Because they could be run with a fairly low pressure they didn't nocticeably change the ride/handling. I am am not convinced that if I should install pump up shockers, they wont change my ride and handling (yep the handling is pretty good s'pecially with 17" wheels and decent tyres). I am open to your thoughts and suggestions on the matter.:smilesandbanana:

I put air shocks on a car once and found it a little bouncy, my choice would be air bags to maintain proper & smooth ride height.
Cheers,
Steve:)

I had a dumped VX Wagon a few years back. When I loaded the rear it would almost ride on the bumpstops so I installed polyairbags into the springs.
Ride quality when loaded and with air in them was great. From memory, the ride height changed by about 50mm. Load it up then pump the bags and you are back to the ride height you started with. I would use them again for sure.

Ive got the self levelling airshock setup on the avalanche. if it was the exact same system then it is not bad at all. But i have also had poly airs as well, & they are excellent too. In your situation i would most likley run the poly airs.

Thanks for the input. I too was inclined to think the Polyairs would be most suitable. For those running the Polyairs, what minnimum pressures are you maintaing to keep the bags 'in shape'?

I keep mine at 8psi but 5psi is the minimum recommended in the specs. They are fantastic!

Great, thanks for all the advice. Looks like I will go for the Polyairs. Something great about this forum the way members don't hesitate to offer advice. Well done to each and everyone.

I used to run minimum of 5 psi in the triton ute. forgot to drop the pressure one day, drove with 35psi & an empty tray. Lets just say it was an interesting ride.

my ute handles better with about 10psi on the bags, as its not as saggy, ive also got superlow lovells and HD fat body ultima shocks but the extra psi helps and ive pumped mine up to 60psi to see if they could handle and no worries didnt drive to far though, and not reccomended past 35psi so they are good quality, and easy to install, also if you got the hsv/caprice air shocks it could be a good option to but more costly as you have to get the air motor/filter power and relays all hooked up and not sure on how they go with towing weight but if one blows its gonna be a difficult ride where as with the polys if one blows you still got shocks and springs

I tow a Full size caravan behind a VX SS originally came with pump up from Holden, replaced them with Polyairs. Would never go back, they don't stuff up ride or handling like pump-ups..
