Decided to have a play on the weeekend and went down to the autopro or somewhere like that. Got hold of a pod filter with the right inlet size and went home to amuse myself. This is the result having bought nuthin other than the pod and re using OEM bits and pieces.

Went for a bit of a drive, different car to drive, much better throttle response and more poke for sure specially in the upper rev range above 3000. Ona longer drive in traffic it seemed to suck to much hot air and down low it suffered but moving again and it was fine.

Took it off went back to stock cause I need to do a few things to sort it out on a more permanent basis like drill a hole for the IAT and provide some heat sheilding. Was surprised it fit under the hood but the bonnet closed no worries. I also want to get a different filter that has front internal area instead of just the flat rubber top.

All in all with some heat sheilding and proper install of the IAT i reckon its brilliant for the money, the induction sound and the kick in the pants at higher revs is insane.

Don't forget to take off the rubber strip across the bonnet to let some air in. Repco has some great heat shield material too.

i find it more amussing that people still use cardomain.com..

Car Domain, just a place to load and link pics from, had a few issues with some other servers not allowing direct linking to images.

Will havta look into repco for the heat sheilding and see how it goes.

Hey, I'm a tight arse. Can you possibly do a writeup with pics once you fit the sensor and heat shroud.. If this works could be a good option/alternative to the other OTR's out there at a fraction of the price. I'd be interested to see the difference in power figures over your standard OTR.. I wonder if you could do this with MAF on.

VX Wagon it is quite possibly the simplest thing to do. Will look into the heat sheild and all the rest of it and take some pics when I do the bits and pieces. bets thing of all is it's very easy to return to stock, take about 10mins.

Also the MAF is still there as with other OTRCAI it sits in front of the throttle body.

I used flexi-tube with mine and was able to position the pod right down next to (touching) the exhaust manifolds.

I was able to get the most hot air into the intake that way.

But yours looks like it'd do a good job at that too!!

I also saw this one with the pod hanging down in front of the radiator. Could work too.

That made me laugh. I know what your saying but even as is after "spirited driving" the pod itself remained relatively cool. With a little bit of fabrication with heat shielding i think it will be ok as far as intake temps go.

I dunno bout that Caddy one, way too much work involved and short of cutting thought the radiator I dont see how that would fit on the VE.

Keep at it mate, it could work with a bit of sheilding, You could even try and make a full surround for it,

What about the $0.36 option?

One of your wife's/gf's/mum's stockings and a rubber band? Add a MAFless tune and I reckon 20 - 30 rwkw gain EASILY!

:D

Yeah my dirt bike runs the stockings intake, maybee thats why its getting harder to start!

The repco heatshield is good stuff. Easy to cut and shape using tin snips. Made a heat shield ala wonky using that stuff. Bought some edging from clark rubber to finish it off. Came out pretty good.

Have someone with software log the car with and without the "OTR", think you will find the " Different Feeling" means your car is sucking hotter air than the standard MCAI.

good luck with it all though.
