I do a lot of work with a Finnish Company and they used to sponsor Ari back in his hey day. A friend of mine who was employed by them got to do a few laps of a forest in Finland in a rally car as a gift from the company. He said he was sh1tting himself and wanted to get out after the first lap but loves talkingabout the experience now.

Ive been in the "squeezed" (because Sue is so tiny) into the passenger seat with Simon Evans before (ride day) Rally of Melbourne a couple of years ago it was awesome and i wanted more :)

I have driven my Camaro to the top of Pikes Peak, and I can tell you that surface is like a clay tennis court, deco we call it in QLD, and slippery as hell.

There is that classic piece of footage, and the Audi Quattro one, with the women driver, forget her name, which stand out in Pikes Peak history.

Although it's a repost (sorry guys) that Ari vid at Pikes is one of my favourites.

GHZ28 I think Michelle Mouton (spelling) has been the only female rally driver in the top league a few years earlier and she was driving for Audi from memory...could be wrong though.

yep that is the one, Michelle Mouton, an awesome video of the same course, from 10,000 ft to 14,110 ft if memory serves me correct.

We got to 12.200 ft then they made us put chains on to go to the top. This was in May 1999, lucky we had some Walmart chains in the car.

My favourite driver of all time. There wouldn't be too many people in any form of motorsport that could drive that well, let alone back themselves with the dangers of the "peak" below them. I don't watch a great deal of rallying but I think they are probably the most talented/versatile drivers.

Channel 9 used to show that Pikes Peak video from time to time. It was so good I bought the video from Peugeot years ago. Don't know if they still sell it or not. From memory the time he set back then wasn't beaten for about 10 years. The joke used to be that Peugeot were so cheap they couldn't afford sunvisors. :)

That was some excellent footage.

I loved the part when the bug slammed the camera lens. Also it's good to see even rally drivers have to do the old, hold the hand in front of the face to stop the glare.

But as was said previously, when the time gets to about 3:00m, you really realise how high he is. It almost looks like a satelite image.

Those guys are insane!

the second video at 1:40 - clips a wall, into a slide, then still threads it across a narrow grid while recovering the slide...... love the quote from the co-driver "Dear God...."
