Hello there, purchasing a new VE SS Sedan. I'm living in the Whitsunday area & was wondering if any of you in Mackay area have any preferred places that you get services done (HOLDEN or Private)? Also, what about a tune? Or am I better off driving to Brisbane for the tune? Not intending to do excissive mods, just the basics. Have Di Filippo 2.5" Catback system on the way & was looking at fitting an Orssom OTRCAI, but keeping the MAF & then a tune. Was wondering if weather or not my HOLDEN warranty will be void with any of the above mods......? Have done a search here, but opinons seem to vary as to what can be done & even which Holden dealer you deal with. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Mick,
Welcome and congrats on the purchase. Holden's own website spells it out in black and white. It says:
"Genuine Holden Parts and Accessories and HSVi Enhancements are specifically designed and manufactured to integrate completely with the operation and appearance of your new Holden. Holden's Design and Engineering teams are constantly involved with the development and approval of every Genuine Holden Accessory and HSVi Enhancement. For more information please visit Genuine Holden Accessories and HSVi Enhancements.
Only Genuine Holden Parts and Accessories and HSVi Enhancements are comprehensively tested by Holden Engineers.
Given this, Holden does not recommend modifying your vehicle from its as built nature using non-Holden approved parts and accessories. Your vehicles integrity, performance and safety may be impaired by modifications using non-Holden approved components. Should you proceed with modifications, your New Vehicle Warranty will not be voided. However, should a problem occur which is attributed to the modifications made, any repairs will not be covered by Holden's New Vehicle Warranty."
The bit in bold at the end is the important bit and is where some grey comes into it, especially re driveline components and warranty. It is often arguable at what point mods that add power can lead to failures due to the additional power. At some point adding power will lead to components operating outside their original specifications eg. the A6 gearbox apparently doesn't have all that much headroom to cope with additional power and torque, so people modifying cars with A6s (eg. me ) should be aware that they are potentially playing with fire.
Unfortunately, it is as you found with your searches - some dealers try to wipe you from making any warranty claims if you've modded your car (which is ridiculous!). Some dealers are very accomodating and will try to push through even driveline claims on cars with significant power increases. No hard and fast rule - depends on their attitude to modifications, your history with them and probably how they believe you normally drive the car.

Yeah, Just trying to work out what the "risk factor" is with each mod. by reading about peoples experiences on the forums ect. For example, if I fit 19" SSV rims to the SS, 99% of the dealers won't give a s**t, if I fit the Catback, 80% wouldn't be worried? Same if I fit the OTRCAI and keep the MAF. But if I go MAFless and get the tune to suit, am I only going to get half the dealers still willing to carry out warranty work, for example? The car will be used as the "daily drive" for both the Missus and myself, so the mods I mentioned in the opening post is all I was looking at, with perhaps a full exhaust way down the track. So now I'm thinking, do I keep the car standard until the first or second service, so if there is faults with the vehicle initially, there won't be any mods fitted to void my warranty? Also, being in the Whitsundays area, I have less dealers to chose from, and further to travel to get to them, hense the question in the opening post about servicing and tune in this area.
Wonky, Did I read here somewhere that You had the Orssom OTRCAI fitted, if so, how You found it so far?
Once again, thanks for Your imput! :)
