Hi,

I have posted a similiar thread in the drag racing section but had no luck.

I currently have 254kw atw from basic bolt on mods on my ve ssv. By next week I am adding a stage six vcm cam 233/233 @114 from memory, timing change, valve springs and udp with a 3000 stall in the auto. Should be around the 300kw atw mark.

After searching the site I could not come up with much choice if I want to retain the standard brake system and put on some rims and tyres for drag racing.

I have been thinking of using the 18 inch ss wheels on the rear and fitting bridgestone re55's or federal 595rs's. Changing the brakes is not really anoption as I am a mechanical idiot but I can chnage the rear wheels.

Any opinions or advice from the guys in the know would be appreciated to check if I am heading in the right direction.
Thanks Andrew.

Be careful a cam that size in a L98 might/would have valves kissing piston tops!!!!!!!!!

Thought a 228 was max in L98??????

It was recommended to me by Greg from VCM after a long chat about my goals and expectations of the car and I think they have done a few already obtaing around 320kw atw, with the auto and stallie I didn't think I would get that much.

I'm not very experienced in that respect but from what I've seen so far most guys just have a set of VE SS rims for the back for dragging. No mucking around with brakes or anything.

I think that cam is too big in an auto DD car. You should make more than 300 rwkw . I think you will just blow the tyres off with 18's on em with a cam. I run a 16" Hoosier drag radial on mine now with rear brakes changed. I believe there is a 17" tyre that can fit on a 17" rim but I couldn't find one. The rear brakes are still fairly big and work as well as the SS brakes IMHO.

Its a daily driven car but I work from home so I don't actually get into the traffic grind every day, SS enforcer, what brakes do you have on your rears now and do you leave them on all the time and just change your rear wheel for the drags.

I have the omega rear brakes from Holmart and got rims as well from them $320 approx for the lot. Tyres were 330 each however for Hoosier 255 x 50 x 16".

I have left mine on but will be removing them for a few months after my next trip out. it really is a fairly easy swap over.

There is some sort of 17" rim option but buggered if I could find drag radials tyres for that size rim. Some guys have though.

cheers

Thanks for that. Do use the standard Omega wheel as well. What sort of 60 foot times are you achieving and do you have a stall converter. Sorry for all the questions just want to get it right the first time.

No stallie yet but getting 1.9 60' hoping for 1.8 with new diff gears I now have installed.
I could manage 12.45 with 2.0 60' on street tyres but was getting dangerous with lots off wheelspin.

The Hoosiers dropped times to 12.02 . Hoping for an 11 sec pass tomorrow night weather permitting.

Rims are Omega rims.

Try sending Street Tuna a pm as he ran his VETT ute at the ls1nats with a different wheel 17" I think. Maybe he could add something here.

What brand stallie are you getting for your car as that will be a mod later in the year for mine.

I believe the standard one is being modified how I don't know, I will find out more this afternoon when I drop the car off for the cam etc, I have 3.7 gears fitted as well and they are fantastic, so if I get the launch right going by your times I should runs in the high 11's with the gears and stall. Thanks for your input.

You should get 11.5 or better with fine tuning but the only set back may be the 3.7's topping out 4th gear. Your going to need at least 6500 -6600 rpm in 4th to avoid a wot 4-5th change. I am expecting to trap 118 mph @ 6200 -6300 with 3.45;s
