Did any one see Ambrose's drive in Mexico City last weekend? I felt very good for him as he brought his Ford all the way from the back twice to end up in second place. He's well liked over here, it's too bad NASCAR dosen't have more road races.

Yeah was watching it live over the web, great effort by Mark. They were slowly catching Kyle. He really needed the placing in the top 5 though!

It was funny watching him and the others and their racing lines, Mark was very smooth and kept a great racing line, the others were all over the place, unless they wanted to draft him coming out of a corner...

Yep, I watch the race. He is competing really well. Markus will be even better in years to come. He is someone to watch out for.

Marcos has not done as good as last year yet , even though he did score a second place in Mexico . However he has collected US$322,567 , and a 2 page write up in the NASCAR web site over his Mexico incidents . Not bad money for only 1 top 10 finish ytd. Does he pocket this money or does it go straight into the team coffers. Go Marcos . And I see Kyle Busch is a very busy racer this year running in 3 series.

Not sure that they show all the Nationwide races live though? Ten HD are showing all the Nationwide races, most of them live.

Was a good effort to come from the back to get second.

And the point of your post is??
Im not a Marcos Ambrose fan either, but credit given where credits due..
Tander sh-ts me too...but youve got to take your hat off to a guy whos won his last 6 or so races in a row.....
To come from the back of the field to second in a NASCAR race is no mean feat......
So if you dont like Marcos, or NASCAR....its easy....dont bother posting:rolleyes:

Does he pocket this money or does it go straight into the team coffers.

Not sure what happens with Ambrose, but the big names normally negotiate something along these lines: 7 figure sum for driving for the year regardless,
then the norm is to split the prizemoney 50-50 with the team owner.
More $$ are picked up from endorsements as well.
Some drivers work out other deals as well,, eg one beer driver has free product for life.
Also, some of the best of the best are contracted to a team permanently
Cheers,

(The above applies to NASCAR cup drivers, remember Ambrose hasn't driven in the top series yet)

The guy who put skaife back in his box - Priceless
Its a damn shame that marcus went to the u.s as we lost a very talented champ, at least his kicking some u.s arse and is rewarded very nicely. Hows murph doing now?? Hehehehe

I was glad to see Ambrose go.:flipoff:
Murphy should have decked him at bathurst.
anyhoo

Nascar amazes me
Here are ambrose's stats for 2007
35 starts
average finish of 21st
6 top tens
1 top five
and he still gets almost a million dollars
and finishes 8th in the championship.

I Love watching Nascar on Fox.

It is such a different experience to watching supercars.

I hated it at first but now i respect their driving ability and think it is quite interesting.

It takes a lot of skill to pilot a car at 180 mph with small tyres on it around an oval track. Those guys play for keeps and to suggest that it takes no skill is just moronic.
I am not a big Nascar fan I prefer NHRA but do appreciate the skill needed to steer a Nascar when one wrong twitch can have you into a wall .

I am sure guys like Mark Martin , Dale Jnr or Juan Pablo Montoya would take offence at the suggestion that they don't have ability.

cheers

I just can't get into NASCAR. Since Ambrose went over there I've watched a bit of it and I think it is pathetic. The cars look totally retarded and have no resemblance to production vehicles. I noticed one of them was supposed to be a Camry (WTF?). At least our V8 Supercars look like the real thing even if we know they are not underneath. For me the only good thing about NASCAR is the sound of a small block pulling 9000rpm or whatever they do. That is nice.
There is no doubt most of them are skilled oval track drivers. If Ambrose is any benchmark, most are not so skilled at turning right, braking or shifting gears. :hide:

Ambrose will get his first chance to run with the big boys this weekend.
He has to qualify, but as it is a road course he should do that easily.

He knows not to tangle with Robby Gordon now.

If he is good enough to get a start he will be the first Australian driver to start in a NASCAR Cup race in about 15 years.

If he can finish well, he will have set himself a new record, easily.

Im starting to like nascar more then the v8 supercars. The supercar series has lost it edge as cars are so even they can hardly pass down the straight never mind on other parts of the track. At the valley last year if you got the start you won.I spent more time drinking piss and looking at chics then watching the race

Great Race on TenHD.... Ambrose leading for the majority.. very unlucky that the race wascalled due to weather or he would have stormed home.

Evern more unlucky that the guy that won when the race was called still had to pit - was not fuelled to the end.

all in all.. great work Ambrose.. show them yanks how to turn corners. :)

Yes this was from last week, he had it in the bag for sure till he copped that penalty just before the race was red flagged. He also missed out on qualifying for this weeks Sprint Cup race as qualifying was washed out :bawl: Its also at a road course, oh well he will be racing the Nationwide series at the same place tomorrow morning out time.

Tiny.

I don't think they show the races on free to air TV here....you need cable to watch. And then you need a really short attention span and the ability to mute the mindless commentary.

If you asked 1000 people in the street if Billy Ray beat Ricky Bobby on the weekend, nobody would know, nor care.

Nope.. they are shown on Ten HD as above.

Possibly.. but I think it is slowly gaining a following much the same as F1 did when Webber became more prominent.

If ambrose gets a bit of luck and a team with some more money - he has every chance to suceed IMO.

Excellent results in Nationwide and Sprint Cup, but true, ovals is really what Nascars all about, but he seems to be slowly getting the hang of the ovals.

I have never liked Ambrose but his drive in the latest Nascar race was nothing short of sensational. He has been racing in the 2nd tier Nationwide all year and won yesterdays race but today he started 43rd on the grid amongst the big boys in the Sprint cup and passed most of them to come 3rd! Great viewing

He said after the race that he had no clutch or brakes left from using up the car to get to 3rd. If he had been able to qualify prob would have started in top 10 and might have even won. He needs to improve a bit more on ovals though. Will see how he goes next season with a fulltime drive in the sprint cup.

If the other 28 tracks that Nascar race on take no ability why isn't Ambrose winning on the ovals..If youv'e actually watched any Nascar racing or listened to Ambrose himself talk about it, it takes a lot more skill than you realise. I've been watching quite abit of Nascar lately with Marcos doing better in it and the more I watch it the more I'm beginning to like it.

Great to see a 1st and 3rd from Ambrose.

Well said Tony I just watched the replay of Ambrose running 3rd at Watkins Glen and have to admit he did a very good job. The yank commentators gave him a very big wrap as well for his ability on road courses.

The drivers ability to give accurate feedback to the crew chief is very important to going well on the ovals. I remember Mark Martin asking for 1/2 pound of air to be removed from his next set of tyres and no other adjustments at one race.

Roughing up the rookies is a sport for some of the seasoned drivers so to stay out of trouble is a big deal for a rookie. Now that Ambrose has mixed it up a bit and gained some brownie points we may see him go a bit harder in some future races. The yanks don't seem to mind the drivers tearing up a few cars unlike the teams here.

cheers
