Would I see a noticable improvement on a VY1 SS with a exhaust only by upgrading to a 80mm throttle body?

Short answer - No, save youe money.

This has been covered plenty of times and on a stock engined car ... if you really want to diddle with the TB, just get a ported stock TB such as the ones sold by forum member Dus ... or don't bother.

This is the TB that Dus sells:

Yep, I agree. For that sort of cash, get a decent set of cats, or a tune if you haven't already got one.

You have plenty of mods to do before worrying about throttle bodies.I would say on a bolt on car Dus's ported throttle bodies would do the trick, but once a cam goes in then i would highly recommend a larger throttle body.

Mmm see now I would Dissagree,

with everything I read on this fourm it said it was a waste of time,

but as I love wasting money I did it anyway to find a small Increase in Power, but what really blew me away was the instant take off, or lack of hesitation, my SS just moves out (auto) and Quick!

the sound was a bonus too, it really sucks, it also has an adptor plate to bring the size back down to 75mm it basicly an unbadged BBK unit,

it cost me naff all and did what I expected it to do SUCK

but hey its your call

Not saying its a waste of time RRossi as i was also sceptical after reading on here about throttle bodies.Just getting at the fact that for him there are other mods that could be done first to net better gains per dollar (e.g headers, cats, diff gears, tune).I have just fitted one to my cam only ute and am very impressed with the throttle response and overall smoothness of the car and is a very worthwile mod once all other boxes have been ticked. Also picked up 7rwkw in the top end so not to bad bang for buck from this upgrade.

I agree with your sentiment - but, on an exhaust-only car, I reckon there are other things that can be done to improve the car, before a TB is contemplated. The quicker throttle response is good, but $$ per kW return is low, compared to other mods, that is all.

cheers,

Macca

They may not be the cheapest mod to do, but I was happy with the results I got from putting one one. Smoother and more reactive to acceleration.

Sure there may be other mods to do for $$ for KW results, but I guess eventually have to do it. :)

Thanks for all the replies guys.

If your car is a auto then go diff gears and a tune.It all depends on how many $$ you want to put into the car.If its a manual get a clutch first.
