who really cares????
I have supported motor racing teams since the mid 80s and they were all sponsored by cigarette companies.....and I don't smoke.

Yep making it accurate is the right thing to do.
But I thought they might have used the A9X instead? The Marlboro VK was definately one of my favourites though.
How ridiculous would it look without the Marlboro livery on it. Some people have nothing else to whinge about.
And I don't smoke (never have)

Who cares, it is true to history...
I remember when biante brought out the GT-R (godzilla) model cars and felt they had to remove the Winfield advertising from the car, really took away the whole package...
I am a non-smoker, and think it should be historically accurate. So no images of JPS BMWs allowed? Winston Churchill images with smoking should be touched up?

Welcome to reality people. Blame all those people that keep dying from 50 different smoking related diseases if you want to blame anyone!
Cigarette advertising has been banned from almost everywhere, and although a number of you think it takes away the authenticity of anything 1980's HDT, the fact is the ciggie companies would be VERY VERY HAPPY to let this little opportunity for some free advertising go ahead. If you don't think they would love that freebie, you need to pull your heads out of the sand.
PS: Model cars haven't had this advertising for years. Those that do have had it illegally added on.

whether or not the ciggy company is rubbing its hands together over this, the fact remains that this particular car had those sponsors legally in its day and it should be historically correct, is p1sses me off no end that historic race cars, model cars etc cant be accurately presented because of doo gooders protecting us from ourselves, ive watched car racing for as long as i can recall and i never took up smoking because of it. if cigarettes are so bad why arnt they banned altogether? MONEY thats why, even with the medical costs the profits from the initial sale of the smokes still leaves plenty in the pockets of company :soap:

You brings up a really interesting point.. if advertising DOESN'T work then why would companies spend millions of dollars advertising their products? :)
Personally i not fussed one way or the other about the use of 'cigarette adversing'..

I am a smoker and have been for a few years now, looking to give up soon but havnt like many other smokers, but again as stated if they are that bad for you and they are, why dont they ban them??
I would be forced to stop smoking and that would be the end of that, but no there is to much money at stake, and it used to piss me off when I used to watch F1
and the Ferarri team had lines all down the side due to smoking bans on advertisment, it just made the car look gay and you still knew that Malbrough was sposed to be there casue they have been there from day dot

Care factor is pretty low...if they want something historically accurate, leave the 'bunger' ads on the damn thing.
Seems a bit gay whining about it.

Hey I'm pretty sure those 50 people had a fair idea smoking would be bad for their health. Anyone who smokes and suffers for it has themselves to blame IMO. Put the signage on the VK and I promise I won't start smoking and if I do I won't blame anyone when I get lung cancer. :soap:

my point was the advertising didnt make me and many others take up smoking, i tried it at school and just hated it, even tho my dad and both grandparents smoked heavilly around me, i dont know one smoker who took up smoking because HDT, BMW, FORD, FERRARI had stickers down the sides of a race car. i think advertising for them must be some kind of tax break or something, i think if you are going to smoke for whatever reason you will

Some interesting points of view here, but sh!t, some people have their heads stuck well in the sand on this topic!
Qld used to be .08 BAC. Does that mean they should go back to that, even if it means more half tanked drivers on the roads?
Should NT re-introduce unlimited road speeds, just because a few people want to do some legal speeding again?
Should Victoria remove its one million speed cameras, just because they didn't exist 20 years ago?
Should NSW remove the double demerit point weekends, just because they never had them in the old days?
Things change, and some of you need to accept that!
As for claims that everyone knows about the Ferrari stripes being ciggie sponsorship, or that Brockies race cars with the same brand wont convert any smokers, get serious! Haven't you all realised that kids love their heroes in sport, and want to do things and buy things associated with their hero. Kids are the problem, not you or me or most of the other drivers. We've pretty much all made our decisions by now whether we will or wont light up.
Those that do know about the past sport sponsorship have already been "informed" by their very advertising, and some have no doubt started smoking from it, which is the exact reason they banned it to begin with!
No one is forcing people to start smoking, but it is an addictive habit with massive social and health consequences, and attempting to protect people from their own weaknesses has to start somewhere...

AMEN, while we're at it we'll ban alcohol, violence in movies, games and on tv, any dangerous sports or activities, sharp implements...
Stuff it, who needs free will?
If they were serious they would ban cigarettes completely, but they're not are they?

Careful Big Al, the lefties will come out of the woodwork ranting and raving:rofl:
Its getting very sad though... what a mixed up world we live in these days.
Every damn do-gooder telling us what to do and how to live our lives.
The same people here who tell everyone how to live their lives will turn around and scream blue murder when something affects them.
Try telling a bleeding heart that pushbikes should be registered, they will be screaming for months...
Cheers,

On a final note...
Yes it is a sad world.
The government is trying to stop teenage kids from thinking smoking is glamorous, yet here we have a small minority of selfish forum members getting all tetchy because their model cars wont have ciggie advertising, and hence wont be "authentic" of the era.
Wake up and smell the roses people, and pull your heads out of your @rses.

well i hope you like your little planet wrapped up in cotton wool there dave because of people like you its only getting worse day by, no one is prepared to accept the consequences for their own actions and only look for some else to sue or pay for their own stupidity. they could call ciggies "coffin nails" right there on the pack with a corpse depicted in a coffin and people would still buy them, then when or if they are diagnosed with whatever hideous disease they will try to claim compo and say i didnt notice :flipoff:
these days everyone knows how bad they are but they still take it up, maybe we should remove all the books in the library that have any reference to cigarettes too, and every movie made with some one smoking in it too! i could go on but im wasting my time

Don't get me wrong I'm all for the banning of advertising, smoking in pubs, cars with kids etc. But if you're trying to tell me that you think making a car model historically accurate is going to undo all that and corrupt a new generation, and that I'm selfish because I chose not to smoke even though those damn ads made it so glamorous. Then it is you that needs to remove head from sphinkter.

My thoughts entirely--the car would look stupid without it.

Ban beer ads too, every time they come on I just have to have one. I agree, make the model as the real thing was, I can't see how it's going to make any difference to whether kids take up smoking or not, banning cigarette advertising hasn't changed much if anything. Same with cricket, as kid I used to watch the one dayers all the time, seeing Benson and Hedges splashed everywhere didn't make me want to take it up.
If the memorial isn't allowed to have it, are the do gooders next going to try to get the advertising removed from the actual car that's in the National Motor Racing Museum? Can't chance any visitors seeing it and having a brain snap, rushing out to the nearest tobaconist for a pack of lung busters.
Some people need to get a life, unfortunately the number is growing.

Maybe we should push for Holden to start selling all their V8's with little notices on the instrument cluster, "WARNING - THIS VEHICLE CAN KILL", just incase someone's family decide to sue Holden when their son/father etc kills himself with it.
While you're at it, get them to pull ALL the advertising on V8's & shutdown the V8 Supercars/Indy/F1/Superbikes, just so that everyone is safe hey.
YOU PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS DAVO, it's not about authenticity, it's about the f***in bubble they're making us live in.

Maybe the car could be modelled sitting on a podium with "SMOKING KILLS" in ****-off big lettering all the way around it? :eyes:

Typical narrow minded comment! The small minority can have their opinions too you know.
Maccas, KFC etc is not so Glamorous as it makes you fat, but no bans on their adds or sponsorship in sports.
The massive Health and Social impact you talk about is no biggie as the average smoker would have paid their fees to the Govt with the amount of taxes paid on tobacco many times over compared to the health costs associated with while their on their death bed.
I suppose you would like all sports banned too as their have been some top athletes snorting coke, binge drinking, brawling etc
So should alcohol be banned aswell along with all the other good stuff in life that has some element of danger?
Theres no chance of you getting your head out of your own arse is there, as it is so far up there you narrow minded........
