Gday.

Im looking to tow a enclosed dirt bike trailer in my 06 VZ SV6 M6 190/Alloytec ute. I am currently getting on highway 9.3/100km with really babying it (this is with bike and all gear).

I was wondering, what will the economy be like If i was towing a 380kg trailer +my bike and all gear < bike is 99kg.

I dont like having my stuff flapping in the wind and the possiblity of stuff to be stolen :vpo:

Thanks in advance!

Here is what the trailer would be in dimension if it helps

*note: this is not my trailer nor my bike ,just found on net*

I have supercharged 6 so prob not best for your info, however I can tell you my fuel usage roughly doubles when towing...

This is towing trailer below, it is a bit of a heavy bastard as it was made for a big jacked up white 4X4 (kinda opposite to what tows it now). However 1 person can easily move it around. An enclosed trailer would be much heavier.

I run the huge tyres on it at high pressure (40-50psi) and it feels like it reduces drag.

Funny enough I don't really notice the difference between 1 or 3 bikes.

Also take into account the storage, rego and upkeep of a trailer, is it really worth it?... If I could do without it I would.

My VX Calais 5.7 goes from about 9-10 L/100 on the highway @ 110kmh to 11-12.5 with a single dirt bike on a regular 6x4 trailer.

If I had a ute that could carry my bike I certainly wouldn't buy and tow a trailer to do the same thing. If theft and security is what you're worried about, I'd buy one of those big lockable metal boxes to put your gear in, and work out a way to chain or lock your bike onto the ute when loaded.

my economy increased 0.5L/100km when towing a loaded box trailer around sydney this weekend.
