Hey everyone, just thought i'd tell ya that Ive just got the whole exhaust system done on my 6 litre ute. I went pacemaker 4 into 1 headers, hi flow cats and mild steel 2.5" difillipo catback. Ive had the difillipo system for about 6 months now, and only put on the pacemakers 2 weeks ago at a shop in Mandurah. First thing i started the car up I was still dissapointed about the sound it just wasn't making the v8 idle it was really quiet even when you were just cruising. This car hasnt been tuned yet. Its only loudest point was between 60 to 100 km/h at about 3500 rpm on the highway. Some of the other things i noticed was everytime i go over a small bump or speedbumps i could hear something scraping and rubbing from the bottom of the car, this didnt sound right at all, so i took it back to the exhaust place to see if they can find what was wrong with it. They reckon some of the heat shields were loose or some crap, so they tightened them, but im still getting that awful noise. Another thing i noticed aswell was the powersteering started making awful grinding noises a couple of days after the headers and cats were put on, but the powersteering fluid level was ok. Could this be caused by how the exhaust place fitted the headers and cats? I took the ute back to the exhaust place and they checked the powersteering lines for me and they reckon there was air getting in the lines somehow and they bled it for me, now its gotten worse. With that rattling noise I was talking about before, they reckon the difillipo system is knackered bcoz they tapped the mufflers with a rubber hammer and the muffler on the right hand side sounded hollow, as if the guts have gone in them. Is this correct or are they just trying to get more $$$ out of me? Does anyone know why my exhaust isnt sounding like a proper flowing v8? Suggestions to fix this will be greatly appreciated.

If the guts of the mufflers have collapsed Darren at difillipo will supply a new exhaust as a mild steel one comes with 2 years warranty

I have pretty much the same system on my VZ SV8 LS1, it is fairly quiet I agree and when I had it fitted was told DF had changed their 2.5 twin to pass noise regulations(it was told to me by a forum sponsor) larger center mufflers than before.

Once you open her up then you can hear the eight, so I suppose to keep the boys in blue off your back it's somewhat of a compromise.

As the power steering rack is dropped down to put the pacie 4>1s in then it's a fair chance something didn't go back in right.

hey mate as for the sound they arent a loud sounding exhaust i even tried talking the rear muffler off wasnt much louder and with the steering it quite possible that the temperature of the headers have melted the seals in side the power steering rack a was lucky with mine i got a year and a half outa mine even with some heatshields i have had installed hope this answers some queries for ya ?
