hey guys just wondering if any one can help me,
i want to compleatly block of the rear brakes in my stateman for burn outs and still have full function of the front brakes, i brought a b&m line locker kit but from what i have seen on the box its a momentarily switch for a max of 120sec, and it will keep the presure on the brakes hard on.... so you would use it for staging, buy pressing the button it will hold what ever presure is on your brakes in what ever line you hook it in to and release when you hit the button again right? allowing you to stall up your car or what ever and get a good launch thats why the unit is called launch controll?
i no a set of a vice grips would do the trick or even a ball valve and if i cant get a solenoid to do what i want it to do i will use a ball valve but yea if there is any thing out there that can do what i want please let me know or even a better unit then the b&m locker that i can use on the rears that can stand being used longer the 120sec's i would love to be able to lock them of with a flick of a switch.
cheers for your help

You have to put it in backwards ie put the flow in from your brake line to side of the housing marked out and vise versa(had me stuffed to when i got one). Also dont worry about the time limit thingo one guy i no left his on after a skid for a while still works fine so yeah good luck. Another thing just my opinion us a missile switch they are a bit safer, lol. also the best place to fit it is near the diff where the single line splits and just use a small length of flexi line to join it back up to the junction.

i wouldnt be too worried about leaving it on a bit longer, I have forgotten to turn it off before and went for a couple of runs down the strip and it didnt seem to affect it.
I installed a light after that to remind me its on.
also done a number of skids with it on too.

A mate has done that do, no effect to either of our knowledge? I'll have to tell him about putting a light to remind him, thx :)

Yeah just need to reverse the direction of flow compared to instructions, that way it just prevents any line pressure to rears and gives you controll over fronts with pedal.
Fitted mine up front by ABS unit, just had two new pipes bent up $50 from a brake specialist (made a patern of what i wanted first out of brazeing wire)
almost looks factory !
Had to have an arming switch with a warning light plus a momentory push switch to operate it to get it Certed over here
Works well, a must for 4 pot rear callipers which seem to load up the rear brakes to much during a burnout:burnout:

hey i know this is an oldish thread, but i was looking at getting a line locker for my clubsport and was thinking the B & M line locker aswell, but was unsure how it would go, so has anyone used this brand or know of another brand that works well, cheers.

I too have just purchased a B&M line locker.
Anyone who has one on their car, could you email me pics of the installed product ?
Mavtech@bigpond.com
Also explain in detail how it connects to what line(s).
And do you have to pull you ABS Fuse out in order for it to work ?
thanks for any help you can provide.
Also what workshops in Melbourne have good knowledge / installed these on VX on Commodores ?
:)

i hate to say it, but street commodores/machine did an excellent write up in one of the mags about 2 years ago, its a great write up.. but they hooked it up so it locks the fronts on when you press a button, so you dont move?? mid rather lock the rears so you can control the damn thing
This place starting to sound like SC every day.. If your car isn't capable of spinning the wheels without locking up the brake lines then you need more power..

Considering one of the guys who has one fitted has 388rwkw... might wanna retract that statement

Craigus I agree with you also .
I also have a bit under that, with 364kw at the wheels.
Just dont want to tear up my APs.
$70 for a B&M line locker - compared to HSV / AP rotors /pads -< Aint hard to choose which way most would go.
If warming up the tyres was a regular event ( Calder etc )

theres lots of reasons the line locker is used, if you lock out the back brakes during burnout it relieves pressure on the diff, brake pads wont overheat and possibly glaze up, your rotors wont heat up which minimizes warping plus the rears will spin up much better there for less strain on the motor and more smoke :dancenana: there all good enough reasons to chuck a locker in.
Enough of that rant while we're on the topic has anyone had thier B&M locker fail? I installed mine in my car a while ago to block fluid to the rears so you had to let off the brake, flick the switch and then I would only have front brakes. It worked well but a couple of months later what happens is now after you press the brakes while the locker is activated it feels as if fluid is making its way to the back brakes and they are stuck on after you release the brake pedal. Does this mean dodgy locker?

*** Well said, that pretty much sums it up ****
I intend to get my B&M Line locker installed by Autoechnique in Knoxfield, but wanted to do a little research first, and find out in detail how it connects to what line(s).
And do you have to pull your ABS Fuse out in order for it to work ?
Also a price guide of what others have paid , for installation, just out of curiousity. So I can use it as a guide only.
Thanks

Sorry mate can't help you too much, my car with the locker is from the land of old school but it shouldnt be too much of a hassle. Are you sure this place your planning to get it installed at will do it? When i was inquiring about mine nearly all the brake shops wouldnt go near it since the locker is illegal therefore they didnt want any liabilty thrown there way .... A few mechanics wanted about $80 but then I realised I could so it my self with a few tools and that was that

Nah not sure 100 per cent.
Might even give it a go with my fatherinlaw , who is an old school mechanic.
Will see.
Would still love to see photos of any Vt- to VZ install of a line locker.
All good.
Thanks

Ok guys heres some pic's of my setup
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1465/5369529/10815997/326950291.jpg
Just made a patern with some brazing rod , then went to a brake specialist and had some hard lines made up , cost $50.
Looks almost factory to the untrained eye:)
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1465/5369529/10815997/326950030.jpg
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1465/5369529/10815997/326949712.jpg
And one of the switches, the large red switch arms the system and is lit up when activated, and the silver momentary switch by the drink holder activates the Line Locker when pressed.

Had to have the momentary switch to make it legal here in NZ, all certed and sweet !

hey johnv is that just one line in one line out???
Blown 540

One line in one line out ,goes between master cylinder and ABS unit.:)
bush_basha
24-07-2008, 04:43 PM
how does that work then, dont you need to seperate the brakes from front to back, or is there 2 lines from the master cylinder front and back then it splits all four wheels indiviually at the abs unit?
ok i just went and checked it out and it does have 2 lines out of the master into the abs unit, one is MC1, MC2 which is which? is one fronts and the other back? and why are they different sized lines?
Also does anyone know the laws for nsw are line lockers illegal??
Anyone help out??????
