kpop

ok so everytime i post a pic of my car, one of the 1st comments is 'remove the mudflaps!'

but i like them - they are functional !!!

but since i lowered my car, they seem to scrape on speed humps, and the grinding sound is getting annoying

has anyone else lowered with mudflaps got this problem

Obviously everyone has their own opinion..... but i hate them!
Remove remove remove... rip off hahha

Personally i would rather pay to have parts of the car respayed due to stonechips than drive around with A big pair of flaps(mud) !!!!

Yeah mate mine do the same thing, they have a few straggly bits of plastic from where they are grinding on the driveway. Only do it on the driveway, havent noticed it on speed bumps and my ute has been lowered as well. Dont know if I will be removing them or not as I think they are fairly unobtrusive but now that it has been mentioned I will probably see them all the time.

Not real keen on mudflaps but i hate stone chips worse.they do look a bit better these days moulded to the car and almost idiot proof for putting on straight, the VZ ute i have has airbags and i cut some rubber ones down and moulded them to suit, looks ok.

mudflaps are for 4 cyl cars on lpg with bonnet and headlight protectors

get rid of them. worst case scenario is you'll have to spend a few hundred restraying your rear bar. least you won't look like you do now. :P

Functional....yes
Good looking.....NO

Unfortunatly I had a similar dilemma being a new to V8 buyer, but you just can't have mudflaps, bonnet protectors and car bras on something that looks so good.

I took the mud flaps off my oldies ute (VZ ute) and it looked much better.

I go onto gravel pretty often to and havnt noticed any scuff/scartch marks.

Also, take the plastic number plate holder off, looks way nicer.

ok so most people say take them off they look ugly, but the thing is, i dont 'notice' them, not one single bit. when i see a car i admire its rims, paintjob/cleanliness etc etc never do i notice the flaps...

anyways heres my car (not lowered in this pic)

do they really look that bad ?

I've seen a couple on VE's and they look terrible, but on the VZ they don't look that bad. If you take them off what's the bet it'll make the car look higher.

They're on now so I'd just leave them. The holes left behind if you took them off would probably look worse.

If you like their function and don't notice them, leave them on. Personally the moulded ones on VYs and VZs are horrible and get stones suck between the paintwork and the inner edge of the flap, not to mention they're chunky, I'd be cutting up flat rubber ones personally, but probably only do 10km a month on dirt so mine has none :)

my front ones were scrapping so i just took the front ones off but kept the back ones, they dont look good but i keep them polished, black and shiny, which i think makes them look even funnier as i was driving behind my car in a mates skyline and my fuel tanks ugly and fadded but flaps look goooood.

i had them on my car, they used to scrape on the driveway and speedhumps so i binned them, i must admit it looks better now, hard to keep the guards/lower panels clean though. also makes the wheels look slightly smaller as the guards look bigger.

yes the other day i saw an SS with no flaps, and there was mud splatter all behind his rear wheels. i think that looks ten times worse than just having a mudflap :)

Bit of a neccesity in the country... along with headlight protectors and bonnet guards, Too many roadtrains throwing too many stones, too many shitty roads.
Functionality over looks here.

Can be pretty inconsiderate too. Not something I'd ever thought of until I'd knocked a mud flap off one side.

Same day I'm driving in rain on a freeway and noticed in the rear view that the spray coming off the side without was a hell of a lot bigger - in fact I was really spraying the hell out of the cars behind me

I was doing the newcastle to sydney run too so couldn't stop doing it for a while ... looked funny at the time, but wasn't good really.

They dont stand out to much on your Calais mate, the colour probaly helps there. And if they bother you to much you could try make them smaller as warrick did which doesnt look to bad.

I've also got the genuine Holden jobbies fitted to my Berlina goon. :woot:

Living in Newcastle mudflaps are almost a legal requirement.

Shit roads + assloads of dog trailer quarry trucks ... combined with councils/companies who define resurfacing as "covering the Barina sized potholes up with a smear of tar and an assload of blue metal" = HAMMERS THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR PAINTWORK AND BODYWORK !!! :flipoff:

Yes they scrape on speed humps etc ... and some (who obviously live where hotmix is the road surface of choice) consider them :limpy: but MEH, if you want them ... put 'em on. Anything that protects the paintwork I'm in favour of.

Screw what anyone else says. I personally don't think the moulded genuine Holden mudflaps look too bad.

Opinions are like arseholes ... everyone has one. :D

does anyone know if you can paint them the same colour as the car or do they still flex to much it may look better

You can definitely colour code them ... as long as you use a plastic primer as a base. Finish might not be the best or particularly durable considering what mudflaps are generally subjected to.

Probably not the best idea on a lowered car ... the flexing caused from scarping on speed humps, driveways etc would probably lead to buggering the paint.

very nice

i guess the color of the car does make them stand out more/less

just a question though - what springs are you using, you have a nice drop there, low, but not too low, which is what im after.

Mate, as long as you like them - get them. Cars are an individual thing that means all sorts of different things to different people.

Go with ya Gut and what you actually "want" - not what others tell you that you "should" have.

I don't really go for the mudflap look myself. I agree that they are functional however - so here is my solution. Slip into supercheap auto parts and buy a roll of that "car skinz" film. It's about 50 bucks for a roll. Cut it carefully to shape for the area you want to protect and simply stick it on. Keep an eye on it and if it starts to look crappy just peel it off and replace it with some fresh stuff. Works great and is not easily noticeable.

like others have said they do serve a good purpose but i just can't handle the look of them.
How long does the car skinz film generally last?

Guess it's really all a matter of personal choice, however I do believe that they will prevent stone chipping and other under body damage.

The muddies that came out for the VX-VZ series at least were somewhat moulded and didn't look so bad.

The one's that are available for the VE are REALLY REALLY bad looking. I opted to suffer the odd chip over ruining the look of the car.

If you like your mud flaps leave em on. Cut them down if you have to. I posted pics of my car and had a lot of comments about the mudflaps. lol

A blown 402/4L80E combo and all some people can comment on are the mudflaps. LOL I piss myself laughing about what is important to some people.

Each to there own. Keep The Flaps IMO. :)

mu opinion is they dont look as bas on the darker colours as they dont stand out, obviously i would rather not have them, it looks a ton better without them but they really do there job, my ute is molested in stone chips and thery would help alot especially as the paints all of the bottom of the skirts where the mudflaps would go,
Another option is to go the 3M type of clear skins as there basically invisible and they do there job for stone chips and tar but dont help dirt ect being flung up on the body
