Hey All,
Was looking to see if there was any good compilation of good scenic drives around the Perth area. Closest Thread I could find was showthread.php?t=77130.
Just wondering where you all like to drive when bored/need to get out etc.
Me Personally, if i'm at home and want to just get out, ill go Roe Hwy/Tonkin, around the airport and back, takes about 45 minutes from where I am, its 80-100 most of the way, not really scenic, but nice to get out.
Another is up Wanneroo Road into Yanchep, then back down Old Yanchep road though Banksia Grove, this is about 2 hours of so.
If i'm feeling a little more adventurous a trip upto Gingin via Wanneroo/Pinjar/Neaves Rd, then back down the Brand and Great Northern. I hate comming into Gingin from north, as the road goes from Double Slash, to 80, to 60 on a downhill road over ~200 meters. This one can take a while as it usually involves a pub lunch, or lunch at the Tea-House by the river.

I used to take all my toys down to Mundaring Weir for a bit of spirited driving,
there was a sealed road that came off Albany Hyw in the "hills" I have taken heaps of cars down their in quite times, still havent taken the SS their,
But so far the quickest car I have found was my old b18c type-R Civic, it was made for the tight winding roads,
The landscape to die for! recomend it to any one.
just in small cars you can push a bit harder... around the corners and still do the speed limit.....:driving:

Dunno about driving, but when on the bike and I want to go for a fang or just a 'ride' I usually go up Canning Mills Rd or Mills Rd East, then Mundaring Wier Rd, nice twisties but not too technical although the two hairpin bends on the Wier Rd have a bit of a shitty surface so you have to watch that (well I do anyway). It's better than OBriens IMHO because there are no private driveways on the road and no retards putting gravel and honky nuts on the corners.
Coastal cruise from Freo up to Mindarie is nice. And from Freo down to the Rockin'am forshore and around the waterfront to Safety Bay is nice also.
If you want to get out of the city, just do the Midland/York/Northam/Midland triangle, good drive, some good fanging spots and not too bad from a scenery point of view.

Drives that i like are - Mundaring Weir - Nice winding roads, can get busyish on weekends so weekdays are best. Chittering Valley road - Alot less busy and awesome winding roads. Down south - Caves road on the other side of Margaret River and also the road that takes you into Northcliffe, simply awesome, no other cars and nice open winding roads throught the forrest - Was down that way a few weeks ago in a V8 Vantage - fun was had :)

I haul the SSV out on Great Eastern Highway up to either York or Toodyay - they're good runs and a great opportunity to try out different driving conditions along scenic routes!
The coast run between Trigg Island Cafe up to Hillarys Boat harbour along West Coast drive is indeed a ripper - lotsa people always out and about.
Also try a day run from Wanneroo/Yanchep up to Lancelin, also a good run which will take about 60 minutes from Yanchep.
Failing that, you can always chuck laps around Northbridge.......

when living in Margaret River, it was always Caves Road from Yallingup to Hamelin Bay - was always on there for work, so enjoyed work more often.
yay someone replied so i can repost without "auto merging", my previous post above is a complete ballsup, but it wont let me edit it , delete it, and kept auto merging.
THIS is what i meant to say ;
Up through swan valley through west swan road, then up great northern to bullsbrook ... chuck a right into chittering road, which deviates a few times, take the chittering valley rd deviation definately, eventually intersects "julimar road" ... take that almost to toodyay but dont actually hit toodyay, theres a road before called river road (bit of gravel i think, or blue metal)... and eventually gets along to lovers lane, then morangup road and through to toodyay road ... then take toodyay rd for the easy cruise back to metro (roe i think it comes out at).
Great little drive for you and the girlfriend to take, and lots of quiet private little spots along the way for a cold beer by a creek. She can nod off while you enjoy the bends
Try this link which maps it for ya (just edited this as i realised maps was alittle on the piss with imaginary bridges) ....

.................................................. .........................
..... Another one for ya's .... perth via mundairing through to kalamunda the back way, down zig zag and home.

Hey fellow West Aussies,
I'm wondering if any of you ute owners out there have ever had a Blueys hard tonneau cover freighted over here etc etc.
I don't like the look of any other hard tonneau's except the Blueys and they are only in Melbourne and Sydney.
I spoke to them yesterday and they can freight over a primed one etc.
On topic, down Rockingham there is a nice coastal run that takes you along about 20 odd km's of beach side cruising! :)
nah mate but youre probly beter off starting an actual thread as it'll get seen by a lot more ppl ....

You're right. There is already a thread about the hard covers but they are all eastern staters.

I like the Freo to Wanbro coastal drive, even down the guts of Rocko, then back to wanbro along the coast is a nice one I do often when bored.

The road between Nannup and Ballingup is absolutely awesome! Tight, twisty, hills.
The drop off to one side is a little daunting and i would expect you would be in a bit of strife if you got it worng and fell down it :( So be careful but have fun. :D

mate ABSOLUTELY!!
Friend of mine had a property to the south side of the road, at the wrights bridge ... along the river ... so many trips down there & that road! Lots of natural entertainment grows in the forests around those parts too :)
btw even more fun if youre inclined for a bit of rally driving, is the large forest area to the north east of wrights bridge, along the balingup-nannup road. the entry to the entire thing is about 50 metres on East side of wrights bridge (on north side of the road)
