SII has round indicator stalk (SI is square)

Series 2 also received the control link in the rear suspension, and I think the series 2 is when they moved the inlet air temp sensor on the GENIII from the airbox to the intake pipe to the throttle body, I could be wrong there but, may have been a VT-VX change.

They're essentially the same car bar a few interior/exterior options and possibly a change in config to the rear suspension to try and eliminate camber wear.

Differences that I can think of ...

VXI:

IAT in top of airbox,
No leather avail in SS,
Hero colour - Tiger Mica
VS/VT style indicator and wiper stalks.

VXII:

IAT moved to intake pipe.
Leather avail in SS
Hero colour - Hyper (Baby shit) yellow :D
VY style indicator & wiper stalks

Mechanically the same otherwise.

I think VXI & VXII both had the alledged "225kw" tune in them ... up from 220 on the VT.

You can feel the difference ... true story. :yup:

The series II have control link, which is very useful even if you don't lower your car, to help otherwise shocking tyre wear. II also came with a CD player standard and higher power standard radio, better column stalks (the series I wear out really quickly) as well as a darker interior (dash plastics black instead of grey) and different interior cloth options.

IMO a series II is worth it for the control links and better interior feel.

thats true about the control link.
it helps the camber, i lowerd my vxII and didnt need a camber kit, they just adjusted the link and cost me $20!

get a VX 2 if you can!

the VXSS i've seen has two buttons, one either side of the auto gear shift - presumably one is power and the other is TC.

True - VXII were the first SS's to be fitted std. with traction control.

thanx guys for the replys, i've always bought a second series of new models believing that the 2nd series would weed out problems found in the 1st series...

will keep looking for s2.

True - VXII were the first SS's to be fitted std. with traction control.

I bought my VX SS Series 1 new and it has traction control standard, also has a CD player standard which someone above mentioned was a series 2 thing. Basically the same car, the only benefit I can see in the series 2 is the extra control link in the rear suspension, but not all series 1 cars have problems, my series 1 did 45,000km on the original tyres, never ever rotated or balanced them either, I think if you lower them it becomes more of an issue, or carry a lot of weight in boot. I would look at both series and buy the best car for the money not enough difference to worry about,
all being equal go the series 2 but if a low km ripper series 1 came along I would go that and if you were worried about rear tyre wear pop a camber kit in it. Also remember a VX series 1 is not the first in the series it is more of an evolution of the VT/VT2 so it is sort of a VT series 3.

My series I has traction control, not that I ever leave it on. I'm pretty careful about rotating the tyres now, I didn't for my first set and they wore unevenly ... since I've been rotating them every service (10K or less) they seem to be lasting pretty well.

the interior on series 2 looks much better imo. The black looks soo much neater and better quality than the dark grey, and the indicator stalks are the same story, the series 1 interior looks outdated compared to the series two based on just those two things imo.

seen a series 1 VXSS with 58 000k's for just under 23 g's, very straight and clean.

that is expensive IMO when compared to something like This (http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/HOLDEN/COMMODORE/details.aspx?__Ntk=CarAll&__D=SS&__Dx=mode+matchany&seot=0&Cr=2&state_id=0&keywords=SS&PriceMin=20000&State=All%20States&__N=4294965857+0+834+285+257+395+4294965745&distance=25&R=5635449&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCo unt_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&__Ntt=SS&trecs=350&__Nne=20&__Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&silo=1003&__sid=119C433F80CA&Model=COMMODORE&Make=HOLDEN)
mind you it has got less K's but i still know which i would prefer.

$23K for a VXI !

It'd want to be very clean and straight.

You could get a decent VY for that sort of cheese.

yes, i know, but every VY over here at the moment has high km's and still asking a high price, and not as straight as the VX. i'm fussy with my cars, it doesn't take much to look after them. saw that link before and if it was in perth probably would look at it, very good...

i still think that $23 for a VXI is very very pricey no matter if it hasn't even been driven in the rain. It is basically a VT with MINOR cosmetic changes.

I think the series 2 also came with different colour faces on the instrument cluster. Or was this only a hsv change?

i'm pretty sure the VX II has revised pistons which reduced piston slap.

yeah, grew up in sydney before going through a time warp to WA...might have to keep an eye out for inter state veh's as you say if they're going to be far cheaper in some circumstances

The Series 1 also had different coloured facias. It was the VT that had the plain grey facia.

The VX2 pistons were revised but not until around April '02 so the earlier VX2 were the same as the VX1, the revision was not a much of an improvement and they were revised again in June '03.

not neccesarilly. You can get an older LS1 without any probs, get the VIN of one your looking up and see if you can find out if it has had an engine rebuild or not. My dads ute had two re-builds and when it still used oil he had, had enough and they put a completely new motor in with an extra 50,000km or X years warranty on it. Hasnt used a drop of oil to this day.

Not really, a lot of VT/VX's had no trouble at all and the ones that did more than likely would have been fixed under warranty. Even some of the VY's
still had piston noise issues.
