Gday all. I know this subject has propably been done and dusted 100 times before. Tried to find out through the search button but could not find much.
Getting the following mods done and want to know roughly what power everyone else is getting, and 1/4 mile times if anyone has raced.
Xforce headers 4/1 3" cats, and maf tune. Already have csv otr and 21/2" ps catback.
My car is a vess ute A6. cheers any feedback appreciated

I guess it depends on what your base power output is as they really seem to vary in the VE's from factory. I saw a new ute run 230rwkw's from factory..
but with the mods you listed in Auto you should see around the 245 - 255 rwkw's IMO. I had the powersound CAT back for a while and liked it but when putting the X-Force Headers and cats on, the system droned.
Qtr Mile should see you low 13's (Once again IMO) But based on other cars with similar specs I know of.. Ute might be a littel lighter down the qtr im not sure.

Basically what Curtis said, and I reckon you will see a low 13, possibly a high 12 if everything comes together.

If i get around what you are saying i will be rapt. It will be in sure hands down at chevs 2morrow. Hope to meet you down there some time, i know you are a regular there.:)
I'm not too rapt with the ps systems sound at the moment. Did you get a power increase with the xforce?

I really like the sound of the X-Force 2.5" and it does not drone anything like the PS. But if your heading to Chev's your in good hands. Im eyeing off the new X-Force Stepper headers next.. But yeah catch up for sure.. you should check chevs website (check his sponsors section) a few VE's on there with different packages.

Originally I had a Delco Chipmaster CAI Pod set up, Genie Try Y's, 2 1/2" X Force cat back and a Power Torque MAF tune in my 06 Auto VE SS. It produced 245 RWKW which concerned me when some of the southern state members were stating they had over 260 RWKW with the same mods.
I then went to Willowbank during the Commodore Drag Day in August 2007and lost my virginity. It was your typically hot QLD humid day and everyone was giving me advice on how to run the best 400M time. Lower tyres to about 22 psi, remove spare wheel, jacks etc, spool the revs up with your foot on the brake until just before the lights went green etc and so on.
I had a think about all this good info but then thought hang on, I have not built a drag car but a nice road car and I wanted to see what it was like time wise as I drive it on the road. I left the tyres at 38 psi, left the spare mag and wheel jack etc in the boot and due to the fact my left leg was trembling so much was unable to build the revs up whilst holding her on the brakes so I sat at the lights in idle, forgot to turn off TC or ESP and reeled of the following times;
13.290 at 106.71 mph.
13.495 at 105.83 mph
13.650 at 106.71 mph
13.745 at 104 mph
Track temp ranged from 21 degrees (my first run) to 36 degrees on my last run. I was also suffering from a problem with the auto box changing from 2nd to 3rd. It felt very ‘lazy’ and drawn out. That has since been sorted out by Power Torque.
I tried again different combinations with TC & ESP off and all types of variations but as you can see above very little change.
Overall I was very happy with the car given it was raced in exactly the same condition as driven on the road but disappointed in my own abilities
I am sure if someone who was less nervous (my nerves are shot anyway) and knew how to drive that it would have cracked a high 12. Who knows what it may have done on a cool night but then again we don't get many of those up here.
Surprising thing was the 260+ RWKW southern cars appear to be pulling similar times if not a couple of tenths quicker in weather much more conducive to drag racing.
Just goes to show that the Dyno figure means squat and is only useful as a tuning tool or bragging rights

Got a feeling i will get roughly the same power figures ans you as the initial power run before the mods was quiet low, maybe because of the rolling diameter of the 22" wheels as they are a lot taller so they are going to throw stockys on the rear and see if there is a difference.
If i can squeeze in a twelve i will be rapt but it sounds optimistic. Will post results. cheers

At the LS1 Drag Nationals last month my car (with Tuffie driving) ran a 13.17 at 108mph with air temp 21C and hitting the limiter in 2nd. With the limiter problem fixed and in the cold night air we expected a 13.0x or even a 12.9x if everything had fallen into place but it didn't happen. Had a few more traction problems - dew?

Got the headers and cats fitted and decided to can the ps 2 1/2" system and went Xforce 3", ran out of time to do the tune but fark what a difference in noise and power. A lot smoother. Cant wait for the tune.
What tyres did you use when you raced?

The tune will make a big difference too - Chev is very good at wringing the best out of VEs eg. mine now almost 265rwkw with full exhaust and Orssom OTR - not bad for an A6.
Used my 19" SSV spare and Titanium very kindly lent me his too! Both were brand spanking new too! Will be interested to try some 18s if I can! Might get it moving quicker than 19s!

If i can get anywhere near that power i will be rapt. Ive only done 4000kms so i guess its still quiet tight. Did you find the engine loosend up after a few more kays and how many did you have clocked up when you did 265kw?
Are you allowed to use street slicks when racing?

Wonky would have been lucky to have 3000kms on his car :1peek:
Tune will change a lot of charactersitics of the car.. throttle response, economy, torque management etc .. They most certainly get better as the kms do though.. As far as racing goes at the drags u can use whatever tyre you like most of the time.

Nah, actually when I got into the 260s it probably had about 8,000km on it. Went from 233 to 248 with the Pacies and hi flow cats instead of GTS extractors then into the 260s with the Orssom instead of CAI. Once I had the tune etc I didn't really notice it freeing up along the way.

15rwkw from headers and cats is nice... I can expect about 275rwkw if that's the case when I get mine.
You had the 1 3/4 tri-y pacies if memory serves yeah? What cats though? I have heard there's issues with some after market cats not even lasting a year!
I've decided on the ceramic coated tri-y pacies myself. I know the 4 into 1 setup gives a higher rwkw figure, but the try-y setup is better down low and into the mid range which is where most of my driving is done...

We fitted the new xforce 4/1 stepped headers and gained heaps of torque and response through the whole rev range, so obviously with these stepped headers they have improved bottom to midrange torque and obviously top end. Very impressive even without a tune.

Actually, to save crapping on too much I didn't mention that at the same time I went from an early KPM 3" system to a new one. That may have accounted for a few kw??? However, I know of others who have picked up around the same in going from HSV E-series extractors/cats to Pacies and high flow cats eg. Mustanger.
Not sure what my cats are - whatever KPM supply with their full system. From memory they call them Mega Cats but I'm not sure whether that's just their name for them.
I don't know that the old tri-y's are better down low applies to the E-series now. My car has 620Nm at 4,500rpm now and plenty down low.

Finally got the tune done on thursday and the results were fantastic.
So with xforce stepper headers and cats, 3" exhaust, csv otr and tune we got 252 rwks with big torque. Not bad for an A6 and considering its only done 5000kms. The auto now shifts a lot sharper and this thing fries my 22" tyres like nothing in 1st, 2nd and chirps 3rd. Cant wait till ive done a few more kays as from what everyone says they loosen up a fair bit.
So once again thanks to the boys down at Chevs. Cant speak highly enough of them and their dedication. Cam next.
Just wondering if anyone has a vid or sound file of a VE A6 cammed with stock converter? cheers

Hey Black Diamond, what do you think of the sound produced from the 3". Many have said the drone is difficult to bare? I am considering the same setup but hesitant due to the feedback I have read about the drone and volume. Do you think it will wake the neighbours in the morn?

The best decision i ever made. Not too loud cruising but when the foot goes down it sounds awesome. A little drone at about 95kms when it was new, but after 1000kms bedding in nothing at all. Cant describe how good it sounds.
Opted for the mild though because stainless can sound a bit tinny. Comes down to personal choice.
But i have a ute, have heard that the sedans boot can act as a sound amplifier and can contribute to drone, if thats what you have.
Its not too bad in the mornings, but going cam soon so i guess it will be quiet loud then. No complaints from neighbours though.:)

Hey guys also gone with the 3" X Force(in mild) and love the sound as stated not to loud at cruise but fantastic at WOT. My cars cammed and little or no drone, better after fitting 4>1 pacies and high flow cats. Good bang for bucks and performs well 329rwkw's in a manual:)
