Hey guys I am looking at selling my modified vx ss and want to buy a old school HSV. I am undecided in which car to look at buying. I have had a vs senator 215 ( cherry black auto ), and a vn sv5000 ( racing green colour ). I am after some opinions on which hsv's from the vn up to the vs range people would say are colectors items.

Some people will of course say the GTSR. I wouldn't give you "two bob" for one.
In the era you are talking, I'd say a fully optioned Series 11 VS
Senator 215, either manual or auto, in low mileage original condition, would be the way to go--what else is there?

HSV VP Senator 5000i, I had one but it was not stock. It was 136 of 136. I loved that car and it was quite rare. The 5th anniversary models even more so. The VP Clubsport 5000i and even the VP GTS are very rare too.
THE VR and the VS models although very nice were more common. The best bet would be a VN Group A but they have already shot up in price.
Other then the Group A I don't think these cars will be considered collectible for a long time myself but still they are great cars.

what budget ? as mentioned the VN GRP A is the pick of that bunch for collectability , followed by the yellow GTS-r . A VS clubsport or senator would be a good robust vehicle that drives well as a daily if thats what your after .A good one will also be worth something down the track imo.

I always loved the look of the VN SV5000, but the VN model was pretty average to begin with, and 17-18 years later, most wont be great cars.

I know it isn't direct from HSV, but VL Group A. Or VN Group A

VL and VN Gp A's were built under licence by HSV for holden and both have SV build plates rather than the HSV plates on the later models
for collectibility the GTS/R is worth a fortune as are the walkies
VN GpA is between 40-80K
i believe MYGPA sold for 60ish a few months back
senator 215, GTS 215, VP GTS or a senator 5000i would be my picks

Yep, VP Senator 5000i is nice and was my 'hero' car as a young wannabe HSV owner, it was smooth and had good lines with the bodykit. This is followed very closely by either VR or VS stroker 6-speed Senators - the 5.7 and T-56, coupled with luxury appointments being the big attraction for me. You can see the flavour in my car preference today.....
All could probably be found at cheap(ish) prices, but I think that unless you find one offered by an enthusiast, you will need to spend some $ above the price you pay, to return any car mentioned to schmicko condition nowadays.
Cheers,
Macca

definately the VP Senator is my fav but also a VP GTS, VN GRP A, VS Senator, SV5000 all great options just depends on how much coin you want to spend and how much time you wont to spend looking for the right one in the right condition.

Love the VR/VS GTS and Senators. Not HSV, but I always had a soft spot for the VN Aero, hardly see any round on the roads in WA.

Well, we're splitting hairs here I know--so please excuse. Actually they weren't-they were Holdens, & were "contract builds" for HSV.
That is "sort of" what 200kw vn is saying.
Cheers, Pickles.

If the GroupA's are fetching 40-80K now then i reckon that says alot about their status. I mean how much could you pick one up for 5-8 years ago?
Can someone also clear up this myth - the GTSR (VS) was chosen with that "Pukie yellow" colour as they are the same as Melbourne cabs and they had excess shells/body's at the end of the VS era? If that is the case then i don't see it being very collectable...Just another LE. I heard this as a myth don't know if it is true but i am sure someone here could correct me (Sorry to offend any GTSR owners out there!!)>
Off topic but if anyone has any pics of older HSV's in their stable, post em up cause i would love to see em!
I'm trying to find this car at the moment... This EXACT car.

Given the quantity manufactured, I doubt that a VTii would ever be considered collectable. Having said that, I don't see many of them on the road in Melbourne.
It's the only car I've owned that I've never grown tired of.
I've often thought about removing the rear wing though.

What about a VT 1 GTS with the stroker 5.6lt in it, they are cheap and have heaps of extra's and personally i think they are an underrated car.
The other would be a VR GTS 6 speed in Sherbrook Green, love the colour and they go nice too.
