This is my new calais that i picked up a few months ago, to date it has 107,000km's on the clock and it shows by the way it drives, handles and looks, the pictures dont quite show how good condition its in. i have timed it to run 0-100 in 6.33 seconds flat on a gtech and ran a 14.8 down the quarter at willowbank with half a tank of fuel with the stock tune..

150 rwkw and 6.33 0-100 seems a bit much for a stock VN. I had 4 or 5 VN/VP V8's and none of them would go anywhere near that for power or times. Sounds like you got a good one.

Here is a link here to some 1/4mile times mate, if you would like to compare some of them from some other cars.
VP SS is about the nearest thing to yours listed at around 15.9 seconds.
14.8 14.8 is a good time for what you have, well done. :)

the motors still quite fresh it was owned by an 82 year old that died, then i bought it off the estate for 5500. i dont think it had ever done a burnout in its life and is in better condition than my mums vy commodore. its good for a 6 second flat to 100 and 14.5 with an exhaust change, at the moment im around the 14.7-14.8 mark.

thanks for that, ive read they do a 15.5 stoxk, but theres a few things you can do to both the v6 and v8 to shave a second off your times, exhaust, cai, GOOD tune, shiftkit/servo and wide wheels, the wheels is where i got better takeoff, there was way too much wheelspin before with 205's it would just slide and smoke up

Upon closer inspection the engine bay needs a bit of a tidy up......but should come up like new!

Your car mate, its all up to you, hey if you are adjusting stuff of course you need it off, but in my opinion, if you are taking pics it looks like something is missing, so it looks better on there.

No offense but given that you have contributed sfa since joining ls1,i would have thought something positive might have been the go unless i'm missing something here......

I think that the wheels look quite classey and give this very clean, original low kilometer car a lift, without spoiling it or making it look like a 'hoon' car.

i remember reading somewhere that the VS SS did the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.4 so 6.3 for a VNC is fantastic
car is in sensational condition too dude
very nice pick up

200kw vn- you can make the vn v8's faster just by adding wider wheels than the stock 205's, spins up way too much and you lose a second or 2....

Ive spent heaps of time on this (and every previous) car ive owned, theres nothing better than sitting back looking at what youve turned your project into, although this one didn't need much other than a cleanup!

About the wheels, if they look so crap on a commodore then why do i get so many people asking if i want to sell them, in my opinion the ONLY thing thats 'wrong; with them is the centre caps are a hardened platic instead of alloy or sheet metal....

14.8 - quick time. 60ft time and trap speed? Was that totally stock and full weight?

nodg
31-05-2008, 05:45 PM
that was with a hsv tune, 2.25 inch exhaust and stand alone pod, now has cai, hectic tune and wider wheels. id expect a 14.5-14.6 next time i go out...

cant remeber the trap and mph for the willowbank run but my gtech reads around 94-98 mph on average, depending what type of launch i get. somtimes it just spins and i dont bother with the rest of the run :)

Very nice and clean example of a VN Calais there champ!!! always have had a soft spot for the VN's. Goes amazing for a stocker . All it needs now is some nice suspension and exhaust tips (imo ;)) beautiful car mate. And for 5500 how can you complain:eyes: great job!

ahhhh memories, I had a VN exactly the same, series II, same red, but leather, still one of the best cars i had, i have the whole thing resprayed after an idiot in a ex cop Yellow VL, slammed the boot into the back windows and pushed me into the car in front, the best exterior mod i did was paint the door handles to match the car and painted around the windows black.

keep us up to date on the mods, it will be a great car.

Thanks for the comments guys, i will be doing a few exterior mods so thanks for the tips on the window trims and door handles, im going to keep the fe2 suspension because every single one of my last cars has been lowered and its nothing but trouble!

G-tech or real ..ie....Willowbank

14.8 stock at willowbank, and my latest is 14.6 on the gtech, which is very accurate.
