We change shit loads of mounts on the ls1's,its mainly the passenger side that goes first,a sign of them gone is,if you see fluid leaking out from them,or they are just totaly broken and lastly, sagged.

yeah i had a busted one on the passanger side. I replaced both mounts and the tranny to cross member mount also, not cheap:bawl: dont remember exact but i think it was around $200-$300 for the lot.

What was your previous car?
The cast iron Holden V8 motors went through plenty of them as well. Blame a ton of torque trying to twist the motor off it's mounts for doing this.
Many front wheel drive cars go through engine mounts as well, as these motors tend to rock backward and forward fairly hard when getting on and off the go pedal.

i dont have a worshop but i have done my own befor so i know whats involved and i reckon $400 is a bit steep considering your supplying the engine mounts imho.

as per the other thread maybe a stiffy (http://www.gravanatuning.com/434/2/430/4329/2004_Pontiac_GTO__Coupe_5.7_RWD.html) would stop this... problem is the motor trying to tear itself off the lhs mount at wot.

Apart from looking the the mounts themselves is there any symptoms to indicate they are knackered?

My car was suffering from a vibration at idle & when i got the mounts changed no vibration. The mechanic who changed them even said to me why did you change them as they looked ok to him.So i guess looking at them in some cases you can't tell there stuffed

The Noltec engine mounts are a good upgrade and are a tad cheaper than Holden ones. Noltec are having trouble keeping stock of them though!

The mileage and age is about right for the replacement.
They do cop a hiding, particulary the Ecotec V6s when they leaked oil onto them
