Can it be done? Have the dimension changed or the computer systems been upgraded? Is it just a matter of plug and play? The box in question is from a 2010 ute into an 06 ss sedan..

probably not going to work as a pure swap in. you may need to swap the tcm over.
I put a later 08 model into my 07 SS, but that required me flashing the original OS & Calibration in to get manual shifting to work. It really depends on the model of the box.
new one was a 8cva to the old 7cva. there will be a sticker on the case with this. but if its an 10 model i have no idea.
My understanding from discussions at Bookclub a while back with Luis at APS and macca779 and others, particularly regarding the problems HEKYEH was having with the A6 in his blown S2 SSV, was that the S2 A6 uses a totally new operating system to the earlier ones.
God damn.. Well I have another option of an 06 box out of a clubby, the Holden ones weren't different to the HSV ones right?
just a different calibration for the diff ratio.
but like i said depending on the year you can flash in your whole trans tune into a later model one. but im pretty sure a 2010 model is gonna be a no go.
I got the impression from things macca and Luis were saying that whatever changes were made in S2 were far more major than any previous changes and possibly to make it work would require swapping the TCM too, as you suggested above. I was listening but not really taking in all the technical details given I'll never have a really powerful S2. If I understood it correctly then under certain conditions involving high power/torque the ECM can override the TCM (or vice-versa??) in the S2 but not the earlier models. Hopefully macca or Luis will clarify the situation for us if they see the thread.
The issues you heard Wonk in our discussions were to do with the torque model of the ECM directly communicating to the TCM and it's ability to shift accordingly with higher than calculated torque inputs. Ie if you don't modify the torque model in the ECM your shit out of luck controlling the trans properly when you considerably up the engine torque. This has been resolved and EFI live has this capability exclusively still I believe. Luis has had great success here.
The issues with OS compatibility between controllers are a separate and real issue with mismatching TCM and ECM controllers. I'm not in a position to be able to offer what does and doesn't work though as I simply don't have that data.

Bit off topic, but I suppose given the above a 6L80E of any sort behind an LS1 is a no-go? The T56's are far too heavy for my stuffed wrist and the 4L60 is starting to get a bit long in the tooth with its stupidly wide ratios.
