Just picked up our SSV 2008 VE (new member)
Hi Fella's ,
Thought I would take the opportunity to say hello . Only registered yesterday after we picked up our SSV VE .
She is an 08 model and a manual . Its my first V8 manual in 25 years so I was very happy to go for my first ride and see what all the fuss is about .
I love this car and I have test driven an auto and is no comparison to the direct response you get from the manual box .
Never have owned a commodore V8 manual before I wasnt exactly sure of what to expect but am very happy with the power and handling of the VE .
I have read that the harmonic balancer in these become a problem and so I checked ours and sure enough it has a wobble in it so I will get that checked out monday when I take it back .
I also have noticed a squeek in the engine bay a little like a loose belt which disappeared after the drive home . Only thing I still here when I drive past houses with the window down
is another squeak that can be heard from the engine bay . Seems like its coming from the drivers side . I would have said its the brake rotor but it doesnt seem to come more quickly with speed . It does stop when the car stops thou .
Anyway lads its nice to be part of the V8 club again and look forward to my stay here with the forum .
Regards
Karl

G'day Karl and welcome to this site. I too have a VE V8 manual, my first. It's fanbloodytastic isn't it. Love it. Mine is a little younger than yours, no problems yet (crossing finger). Anyway enjoy your stay here.
Cheers,
Steve

This site should come with a warning, do not read unless you are prepared to spend money :), welcome I am sure you will love the car, they do develop a few issues, but are absolutely awesome to drive....

Enjoy the car Karl. They are great cars overall. I only have had minor isuues over the years with battery, alternator and waterpumps going.
You should look at giving the motor a tickle as they are different beasts with an OTR, exhaust and tune.....

Welcome mate.As you'll find out this place has a ton of very clued up guys, and it has saved me a bit of coin via the "How to" section.
I brought the wife an 07 VE a few months ago and it to has developed the Harmonic ballancer blues,so in it goes on the next service for a quote
1st then weigh up my options.Anyway enjoy the board.

Welcome carl, i was in the same boat as you, I bought a 08 VE V8 Calais auto sportswagen, the wife wanted the SV6 but as soon as i merged onto the hiway on the test drive and buried the loud pedal i couldn't wipe the smile off my face all the way to the car yard!! So we bought it.
It was the first v8 i have ever owned and i will never go back.
Since then i fitted a X-force stainless exhaust system, VCM over the radiator intake and a tune by power torque engines, and that completely transformed the car and increased the fuel economy (after i stopped driving like a ratbag)
Start reading and start spending is all i can say !! I'm reading up on cam's now

Welcome Karl! I've had two SSVs, the first a 2007 and now an MY9.5 ute. Loved them both and the most serious problem I've had in a combined total of 80,000km is broken clip on the driver's seat base on each. $60 part (mine were both under warranty) and a 5 min job. Both cars ended up with full exhaust, OTR and tune and now the ute has a small cam - I love it!! :woohoo:

Nice - my sedan used to look like that - for 10 minutes. I drove it straight from the dealer to a tyre place down the road where they had new 20" rims and tyres waiting, then straight to the place I used to use for mods to get extractors and exhaust fitted. :D
In case you haven't realised I've sent you a PM (private message). See Notifications at top right of screen.
PS I'm surprised you could post pictures already - you used to need 10 or 20 posts to be able to do so, so maybe you can reply to my PM???
