3 weeks on, maybe I should have chosen odds instead of evens....

.... it has been 3 weeks since I have take delivery of the new 2012 SII SS Sportwagon M6, since my 3 year lease had ended on the HSV Clubsport 2009 Sportwagon M6.

During that time with the SS, i have clocked up 5000klm, and had the following work performed, OTRCAI, H&M headers + Perrry exhaust fitted, and the tune performed, Harrop brakes fitted + TSW 20" wheels fitted.
But now I have the SS, WOW am I under impressed with the SS, it lacks the pull through the mid range, it is a shocker compared to the HSV.

Both cars had exactly the same mods and the work performed by the same workshop and tuner, the exhaust was swapped between vehicles, naturally except for the brakes and wheels.

I would have expected that the 6.0 vs the 6.2 to be pretty much the same, with the mods etc. however they are 2 totally different animals to drive, in the SS, I am always downshifting earlier and 5th is almost useless.
Even having 135,000 klms on the Clubby, it is a better car.

Has anyone had an experience like this, have I must a fundamental point with the SS, have I forgotten to have something tweaked i.e. the diff ratios etc.

Any feedback or ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Apart from the Torque difference between the 6.2 and the 6.0 The hsv would have had 3.7 diff ratios where as the ss only has 3.45

Install cam + retune = happy camper

Don't the HSV's have a closer ratio gearbox as well?

Different ratios and bigger capacity engine, why would they feel the same???

5th almost useless? You should be able to hold 5th up most hills as long as you're doing 80KMH or more.

While comparing the two vehicles is not a going to make the SS look impressive, it shouldn't be that bad either. Maybe take it back to the tuners for a check up as I'm thinking something is not quite right there.

Bullshit, you'll get 230ish on an LS1 with bolt ons and a tune.

6Lt, manual, with full exhaust and intake should push at least 250KW at the rear if running premium ULP.

Out of curiosity you said mods by same tuner, would you have dyno sheets from each car? Otherwise gearing - diff, possibly even gearbox, did the Clubby also have 20's?

much appreciate all the dialogue around the post.

As mentioned the tuner was the same ~ Tunehouse in Sydney, both cars are with 20's, over the past 4 years I have been a THR customer enjoying the professional focus and detail level + output.
I do have the sheets from the clubby, well 2 sets the first with the CAI + CATback and then the full system, as for the SS, not at this stage as Jim had to leave for O/S before I could have then sent via a PDF.

The decision to change from the Clubby to the SS was based on financials i.e. a saving of $25K+ over a 3 year lease term was an attractive number.
Now, it appears that a lack of understanding of the bottom level vehicle specifications, has put me in the place where I am currently, also a lack of 'what I would be giving up' is going to punish me for 3 years.

In hindsight there is never a free lunch and I should have listened to my own words sooner.....
After the valuable input from the members, I had the wrong approach thinking that with the 'bolt on performance gear + tune', one could almost build the same car with out the bling.
Looks like I have f..ked up on that front.

Over 12 months I drive 42,000 klm's across NSW + SE QLD, is there any mod's (relatively cost effective) which could be carried out to bridge the gap a little between the Clubby and SS, i.e. CAM + Tune as Zorro mentioned.
Or is it one of those life experiences where you learn from the mistake.

P.S. having the engine light come on every second day, would that effect the tune ?, the code is apparently associated with a lean tune, which will be rectified when Jim returns from O/S.
The tune was set a little lean for economy parameters.

I've never driven a 6.2 but have seen a completely stock LS3 Senator (of a mate) run a 13.01 as it was driven in off the road after the 100+km trip to Heathcote and I doubt many absolutely stock LS3 HSVs would do better. My heavier bolt on L76 SSV A6 ute ran a 12.83 on the same day. It started with 201 rwkw and with full exhaust, OTR and Chev tune got to 260rwkw on the same dyno and did the 12.83 in that guise.

However, to possibly answer one of your other questions, my previous (lighter) SSV A6 sedan with very similar mods and also 260rwkw could only manage a best the previous year of 13.17 in basically identical conditions. The only difference - the sedan was running the stock A6 2.92 diff, the ute has the 3.45 diff from an M6 SSV/SS. The jump from 2.92 to 3.45 is much bigger than the 3.45 to HSV 3.7s most people do, but would still make a difference. However, bang for buck the $1500 or so for a 3.7 plus labour to fit is not all that cost effective. Going aftermarket with 3.9 or 4.11 as some have done with M6 VEs is more radical and probably more expensive.
