Special adaptor to send video from iPad to head unit
Hi guys,
As the title says I'm trying to source an adaptor that allows me to send the movies on my iPad 4 (with the little lightning connector) to my Alpine double din head unit.
The head unit I have is the ICS-X8 with the iPod USB A/V cable (see the two pics below) that allows me to transmit music & movies from my iPhone 4S ( & 3GS, 4 etc) to the screen of the head unit...Which performs flawlessly with the iPhone 4S.

Now I have an iPad 4 and I want to connect it to my head unit, but I need to try and find an adaptor that will allow me to transmit audio and video. I've seen the lightning to 30 pin adapters on eBay but apparently they will only charge & sync the iPad 4, but not transmit audio or video.
Has anyone on here had the same issues with their head units (it doesn't have to be Alpine, since it would still be relevant with any other brand)? ie upgrading to the newer iPhones and iPads and now not being able to connect to their head units?
Thanks guys

Special adaptor to send video from iPad to head unit
I haven't tried video. But the adapters do put out audio as I use one on my clock radio

Thanks Macca, that's good to know...but I'm really hoping that there is an adaptor for video.
Btw, what adaptor are you using? Is it a genuine Apple product or just a Chinese cheapy?

Does your head unit need a firmware update? I'm not familiar with Alpine but I know a number of Pioneer head units have firmware updates to support iOS 7 and lightning connector devices. Might be worth checking with Alpine if an update is available.

That's a good point Davo. Maybe the standard adaptor may work with video after a firmware update. I'll send an email to Alpine and see what they say

Looks like Alpine have online software update support! http://www.alpine.com.au/showPage.php?pid=438
Simply download the relevant bin file save to a usb & upload to your deck.

Anyone know where I can find a new 4th Generation 32GB or 64GB iPod Touch (ie the last one before the lightning connector was used)?
Re: Special adaptor to send video from iPad to head unit
Well there's your answer. Same story with my Pioneer AVIC F930BT (and the AppRadio I had before it). Unfortunately I can't see the head unit manufacturers whinging at Apple since it'll lead to more people upgrading to the latest and greatest but it stinks when someone's perfectly serviceable head unit won't work with a new phone/tablet just because the phone manufacturer changed something in their specifications. Bastards. And we've all got a spare $1500+ laying around to upgrade just because of this... yep sure.
Your head unit should support video playback via USB (perhaps SD card too?)... maybe this can work for you as an alternative.

What did you do with your iPhone 4S that was working before? Can't you keep it in the glovebox hooked up to the car all the time?
I have an iPhone 4 connected to my AVIC unit all the time just for music. Lives in the glovebox and I only ever touch it whenever I decide to put new music on it.
