VT VX head unit removal tool
hey all,
Im in desperate need of the little tool needed to remove the standard head unit from a VT and VX commodore. All of them on eBay have up to a week wait for postage from interstate and i dont want to wait that long. Does anyone know where in Brisbane you can actually walk in and buy these things? Ive called supercheap, repco, Jaycar, autobarn and no one does.
Re: VT VX head unit removal tool
Mate very easy to make with no more than 1/8 or 3mm welding rod or equivalent. All I done was bend em up myself.
Ideal if you put a slight bend inwards up about 10mm from the ends. This ensures the catches hook in & release the deck from the outer jacket.
Just remember not too much force!!
Re: VT VX head unit removal tool
Ive looked around the house for anything that might work and i dont have anything that suits. I was told an old wire coat hanger works a treat, wouldnt you know it i dont have a single one in the house. Used to have a wardrobe full of the things.
Re: VT VX head unit removal tool
Actually managed to get it out using 4 of these bits from a few pens:

Re: VT VX head unit removal tool
Yep used a steel coat hanger.
Cut it into 2 equal lengths and made them both into a U shape and a bit of jiggling it pops out.
Re: VT VX head unit removal tool
fuk knows how ya did it with them? But good onya! Yep a thick coat hanger bent nicely will do the job. I made up four short lens of yellow tip silver solder sticks that worked a treat here!

Had a stealership replace mine in a VY under warranty. When I picked it up asked them "was the car broken into"??! Looked like a crow bar was used!!
