vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
anyone got any ideas whats going on here? never drops for any reason only goes up a little bit or drops
back to 23.4/5/6, idle or highway. Is the guage just not working properly?
I've hit the trip meter from the last fill up so gonna see how many k's i get for this tank
used to get 13l/100km's before the cam. It's a VZ SS 5.7 3.7 gears.
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
Definitely doesn't sound right. I'm guessing its going to be either a tune issue or stuffed O2 sensors.
I take it its been like this ever since the cam was installed?
For anyone else here are the specs for the VCM 6:
Cam Profile: 233˚ 233˚ .597" .596" 114˚
What are the cars manners like? If it was a tune issue it would probably drive like a bit of a pig somewhere in the RPM range. Hopefully it is just a gauge calibration issue?
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
What's the average speed?
Would also agree that the tune isn't right or the O2's are gone.
I'd expect around 16-17L/100kms to be about right depending on speed.

only picked up the car on monday an noticed it was chewing the juice so i checked
the kms per litre yesterday an thats what it said.
Well not that i know any different cause its my first cam but its a bit rough off idle, stalled it 4 times
the day i picked it up but not since. There isn't much bottom end and having to drive it in
3rd gear for it to feel sharp around the hills where i live.

avg speed is 50kmh
i didn't get new wiring for the exhaust i upgraded too but it seemed fine on the old one.
Well yeah like i said it doesn't change regardless of how fast im going.
I think i just gotta call up the shop again.
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
Just to understand, is it showing 24p/l instantaneous or average?
I would have copped a hiding on the dyno.
Will take a while for the average to come down.
Reset it.
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
He mentioned he reset it when he filled up, I assume that was after it was tuned?
If average speed is 50km/h and you've gone thru the best part of a tank, i'd take it back. Something's not right.
It won't be the wiring on the O2's (unless the damaged it when they put the new pipes on), it will be the sensors themselves. I'd get them changed regardless if they're getting on in age.
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
Crazy Kent, if i understand your post correctly, your avg speed is around 50km/h and you have reset it post tune
Assuming you have run maybe 100+kms travelled, id say you have good fuel economy based on that personally.
Mine goes higher than that and i have new motor, new tune, new 02 sensors etc etc.
Welcome to cammed cars.
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
I read it as though he has reset the trip odometer but not the avg. fuel use.
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
I reset the trip meter not the average litres per 100kms
I didn't know you could reset that so i did just then gonna wait till my next outing to see where its at.
White lie ill give it another run if it doesn't normalize ill deffinately change it.
Is it just replacing the plug on the exhaust? not sure what it looks like or what it is exactly only
seen it for a minute when i put the previous exhaust on a year ago.
Ill deffinately change it when i get some more money tho.
Thing is a weapon in the mid range and has a badass idle for anyone whos wondering, with 1 7/8s and twin 2.5
Harrop 1900 still going on next year tho.

My cam is a bit smaller than that but at ave 50kmh I can bank on my economy being around 15l/100km and can get down to low/mid 9s on a 30km freeway trip into town (mainly 100kmh, some 80kmh).

Wonks ive had 2 similarly built ls1s cam specs and 2 different tuners, running 3500 hi stall, man, no way i could get around town 15lt/100km....even with a gentle right foot, impossible with my experience.
Not saying anything other than my experiences forget it :)
Re: vcm 6 using 23.4 litres per 100kms
I thought it reset the whole lot when you did the trip meter?
Just have it on the average and press the set/reset button.
Similar size cam, 4500 converter, 3.9's and I use to average around 16-17L at 50km/h.
Don't VZ LS1's have 2 pairs of O2's? May have to check with your tuner if they're still using the second pair, otherwise you'll only need to change the front two. As simple as unbolting and unplugging them and putting the new ones in.

It does :)
