Weight reduction (calling all wiring gurus)
Hhiya guys,
Just another silly question,
Who out there has had success stripping down the factory vy wiring loom,
What systems can be pulled without bring up too many error codes, and if so, (airbags for instance are gone) how would one trick the body control into thinking there was no problem there?

Why there are easier ways to loose weight, eg. give Mcdonalds a miss. Remove a/c unit spare wheel etc, is the car a drag car.

Because I've done all of that allready bling,
Airways are out as they're encased in 3mm plate and heavy as hell, I just don't want the error codes driving me nuts,
Abs is looking a bit shady at me too :)

Might be easier to get a custom loom from Sideshows or similar made with whatever you do need rather than chopping out what you don't need.
Can't see there being a huge amount of weight reduction there maybe a kilo, two max? There'd be more variance in your bodyweight as said.

Bin it all and start from scratch.
If it is a circuit car you don't need much of anything and the MIL codes can be turned off.. no worries at all.
Alpha Fibreglass do guards and doors, bootlids, bonnets etc
Strip all the sound deadener out of it.

deadeners gone and its amazing how heavy the bucket of little bits that weren't needed is, plastic loom surrounds,heat shielda and exhaust brackets from under the car, lots of little wires for alarm still hanging around, a couple of little speakers and leather, not quite sure if the abs unit is above me yet
muahaha, i'll get this down to 1400 yet :)

Hey mate, no advice for you, just about to strip my vy down for Improved Production over here in WA, so keep us posted as to how the diet is going, don't forget under the car, like exhaust can be cut to exit in front of wheels (edit as you have commented), I think cats can be removed? obviously as you've said aircon/compressor are gone, door trims would also save a bit? to be honest i agree with everyone else, the wiring loom is not worth worrying about imho, anyway keep us posted with some pic's, i might do the same once I start the weight loss, 1400kgs would be a good fighting weight lol......Marty

As a point of reference my 06 VZ SS A4 with a 1/4 tank of fuel sits at 1605kg on the factory 18`s at WSID`s scales.
I pull the spare/factory tool kit, jumper leads, boot carpet, F & R floormats & I empty the glove box and centre console. I leave the cd`s in the stacker as it`s not worth the time to remove/reload them.
There is probably 15kg in draining the washer and coolant bottles dry & running 1/8 of a tank instead of 1/4 (I`m a bit conservative there), I also should remove the factory airbox but the MCAI is a pain so I`ve just left it in.
A regular at WSID I was talking to one night said he suspected VZ`s were the lightest in the VT-VZ generation, I can`t remember the figure but I was around 50kg light than his VX and he had removed roughly the same things I had.
