... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
reported today... a test drive of the current Commodore replacement
don't often agree with a lot of what one J Dowling says about cars
but todays report is interesting (have a read of the link below)
I agree with his closing comment on the article
With that in mind, the only question left to ask: is it a Commodore?
That’s a tough question to answer. Holden says the Commodore had to move with the times. But did they need to put a Commodore badge on this car?
The early signs are that the new Holden will be a fine vehicle. And it will be loaded with technology, most of which is being kept secret until the formal unveiling in December.
But for me, for now, this is not a Commodore. Regardless of how good it might be.

Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
Holden must be getting Nervous / Desperate having to lower themselves, trying to spike interest, by letting the media test dive a non complete prototype. What a joke...
As for the AWD system on the non turbo V6 ("not enough room under the bonnet" whatever, what rubbish, really.......) no doubt it will be very similar to the Insignia predominantly FWD all wheel drive system.
So its going drive like a boring under-steer-y FWD, with not much mumbo...
Here's a prime example, even when you have Lots of power with a predominantly FWD all wheel drive system, its not as much fun to drive as a RWD on twisty roads...

Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
Ive only ever owned Holdens/HSV, but its looking liky my current VF Redline will be my last. So disappointing.
Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
Disappointing, looks like my Vf Redline is my last commodore. Only chance to keep me buying Holden is what the yet to be announced 2dr V8 will be. Sad to say may have to get on the wait list for a mustang or Chrysler for my next V8
Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
Some more information in GoAuto. 9 speed auto and 0-100 in under 6 seconds sounds promising.
With SUV's increasing is sales dramatically over the last 10 years and large cars falling by a similar amount I wonder what sort of numbers this new Commodore will achieve??

Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
My guess is they will price it too high. The slick Holden marketing department will tell everyone it is competitive in pricing with VF when comparing RRP but realistically it will be more expensive considering that no one pays close to RRP for the VF. They are already doing it with the base Astra saying it is similar price to a Mazda 3 Maxx but you will be able to get more discount on RRP with the Mazda. So realistically it is more expensive than the Mazda 3.

Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
How do you guys think it will stand up against the Holden insignias already on the road now? The new car seems to be marketed as a whole new direction for the commodore name but surely that's missing the point that the vehicle is simply the next model in the evolution of the insignia? It's like they have just taken the left over commodore badges and put them on another model that already exists.
All that shouldn't take away from the new vehicle and to me it looks like it will be a great car (although not for me) but I think I, like many, just wonder why it had to wear the commodore badge.
Let the dream die...let it die. Lol

Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
Holden should have built us the Cadillac ATS / CTS instead. That thing is ballz.. perhaps a bit of localization of the arse.

There is a shot of a VE next to white one.. the visual links are so strong.
But no, another generic front driver. They'll probably argue Commodore has its roots in Opel anyway.
Like where is the visual link from VF to Opel... at least the Mondeo looks like the outgoing falcon in a squint.
I hope Holden is staging a late switch to the actually tough car I would want to own. But only Americans want hot cars eh?
Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
They will have a very hard act to follow!

In Patrick Swayze's last ever show The Beast, he drives a black Cadillac, it looks fkn awesome. Bit like our VE ;)
Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
no V8, no turbo, no RWD, no effing buyers.
may as well grab any fwd pos and slap[ a commodore badge on it... wait a second, they have.
Re: ... 2018 Commodore replacement, NO V8 or turbo :(
Yeah, it was the Opel Insignia in 2012... then after the BS, re-badged a Holden Insignia for 2015, now they're gonna nail a Commodore badge over the top.
Its had an identity crisis since coming here. Tell me we're dreaming... do they really think no-one will notice?
How about two different types of Holden 'Cruze'.. WTF? One a small SUV thing, the other a series of small cars.
