ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
Ok, so, we've recently moved house to an area that has woeful ADSL2, typical speeds of 3-4mbps, after asking some other people in the area it seems that is the typical speed I can expect. We are still on the 'not yet scheduled' list for the NBN so we are a few years out from that at least.
One of our neighbours recently swapped to an Optus Home wireless broadband and says its much better.
When I do a speed test with my (Telstra) 4G phone I get speeds of 20-25mbps.
Optus have a 200gig plan for $80 a month which is cheaper than what I pay for 100gig on ADSL2 now.
Has anyone used one of these Home wireless modems? If so was it reliable and reasonably consistent?
Re: ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
Who is your ADSL2 with? I too recently moved and only saw similar speeds. After lodging a complaint with Telstra, they investigated and changed my port at the exchange (said the one I was on was heavily congested) and gave me 20% off my plan. Would be worth checking with your provider if you haven't already
My only experience with mobile broadband is from a long time ago and they would really slow down if you have a lot of devices connected. Things may have improved since then, which I'd imagine so given the modems/routers are a lot more capable.
Re: ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
ADSL is with Telstra, already had it checked and there were no faults according to them, we are too far from the exchange.
Re: ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
When i had ADSL2+ i was with TPG and would get between 12 and 18mbps, now on nbn with tpg and am getting 95mbps lol
Re: ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
I'd be stoked with 12mbps, even 8 would do but with 2 kids now at ipad age 4mbps is just not enough.

Re: ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
I'm at La perouse, was experiencing 1/2 -1 mbs download for many years,
Optus's first 4G was about $100 for 80 GB, I took it as it was impossible what I had.
Maxed that out easily then 200GB for $80, much better however are maxing that as well.
I see the last was about 270GB I think they charged me about $110 or something like that,
Still much better than where I was.
It has it's ups and downs, average is around 12 mps download so far superior from where I was.
Slows a little of an evening sometimes when every fuka is sucking on it but still better.
Possibly be better deals when they all catch up but at present it's the only relief there is.
Just plug and play, no line fuk around, hook up WiFi and away.
It's worth it!
Cheers
Steve
Re: ADSL2 vs 4G Home wireless
Supposed to get NBN here in about 6 months, I only can get ADSL at the moment ADSLII is not available.
Not really fussed about the speed it doesn't bother me at the moment.
Here is mine, I know the speed is garbage but interesting thing is
that if I use a VPN the speed increases a fair bit every single time.
First one today without the VPN was
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6351924762
(Download Speed 5.02 Mb/s)
Then I connected my VPN & did this
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6351932513
(Download Speed 9.93 Mb/s)
Can someone explain why this happens?
(Round about the same figures every time I try it.)

I'm not sure if all VPN's do it but ones like Wangle compress some of the data and the speed skyrockets
Just did back to back tests on my Telstra 4G mobile, out in the middle of nowhere, higher one is with the VPN on...have seen it max out at 99.9Mpbs before lol

Compressing it can also save you on a lot of data as well as the metered content going thru your ISP can be heaps less
