Hey everyone first post so I have a vt ls1 220ks bit tired from neglect, I was thinking about getting a vcm cam kit(springs, rods, chain, etc) and ls7 lifters and trays thinking that should get her running alot better, just wondering if you guys recommend replacing any other things,
With those klm you might have to look at the bottom end ,said that some ls1 do over 350klm like mine with no dramas
Yep, with those kms you could be throwing good money after bad. Have some basic testing at least done on it eg compression test etc.. Even new plugs, leads and a good tune could make a world of difference, although not really worth spending close to $1,000 on a tune on a stock motor which may soon need a rebuild or have a cam installed (another tune).
Have seen a couple of early LS1's with higher kms & still going strong,
my son had an unopened one that got the shit flogged out of it every day with over 470,000kms on it.
The original cam & lifters in it were badly worn & chewed when we pulled the motor down but the rest of the engine was amazing.
One of his mates recently fitted a big turbo running 15psi on one with 250,000kms,
he just fitted beehive springs but apart from that it is untouched, pretty sure he ran about 10.6 last meeting at the drags just after.
My point is that these motors can take a fair bit.
Personally, I would do a diff upgrade with a true track centre & better than standard gears before a cam
& make sure you do heaps of research on which cam to put in there.
This might be stating the obvious but make sure you replace the oil pick up seal if you are not fitting a new oil pump.
Finally, most importantly, all tuners are not equal, there are plenty that make outstanding promises & will blow smoke up your arse
but make sure you choose carefully.
There are a few good ones but plenty who are useless. :cheers:

Another cheap modification which is worth doing to a VT II LS1 engine is fitting a VX or later LS6 style intake manifold (& the slightly bigger injectors that came with them).

Do some research, carefully check the part number on yours as the VT is over 20 years old & you might find that someone has already changed it.
Thanks all for the replies I forgot to mention some little things, it has new injectors, water pump, underdrive pulley kit, leads, plugs, tenisors, and all new filters plus a mafless tune,plus xforce extractors and exhaust, will def get a compression test forgot about that one, one down side is the previous owner never serviced it and the heads are all sludged up I've done numerous oil changes and a flush which help some
Oh if I had money go a full rebuild with some boost, but as it is now I have a bike and my daily which take some money, but after the ss sitting so long I wanna give it some loves and some extra ksQuote:
