Pickles & Davo are right, my wife just pointed out a paragraph she found in her diploma info that she is completing for mortgage broking & it states that the low interest deals on vehicles etc are no free ride. The dealer still pays the finance company the going rates, its just they tack it all into the cost of the vehicle & tack their bit of comission in as well. The finance companies DO NOT lose out & neither will the dealers.

Get your facts straight . . . the Toyota 3.9 (that ends tomorrow) is a Toyota subsidised deal . . . you are NOT locked into RRP or any other shenagens . . . go do a deal and then get the rate!! . . . other deals may differ with other brands but over time this sort of activity will be worn by the Brand . . . not the punter or Dealer!!!
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
All this talk of devaluing the brand.....
Its not like Ferrari or Lamborghini are doing themselves damage, its HSV FFS, a small business in part of the old Nissan factory that sticks bits on Holdens, that is relevant to one little pocket of people in one little part of the world populating 20,000,000 ppl. And you know what, while these cars remain the choice of the Cashed Up Mine Bogan thats only back to drive it every 21 days HSV have it nailed. They are a good, cheap (if you buy an entrly level car) reliable performer that will go to the shops and the bottle-o with style and impress the mates with a skid all with the marketing inspired DNA of Brocky. These are not serious performance cars, they are not AMGs, they are big sporty sedans with a bit of clout. Put one on the racetrack and watch it buckle at the knees after a couple of laps if you are in any confusion on this. Instead Blokey V8s for the masses - Thats what its all about.
What else do HSV need to understand?
Nothing is really selling at the moment, not Commodore, not tarted up Commodores. S#%t happens! :)
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
Martin, just out of interest, what are the weak points of the HSVs at the track?
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
Something like this -
Oil Cooling
Gearbox Cooling
Diff Cooling
Engine Cooling
Oil Surge
Power Steering Cooling
Braking
Axle Tramp
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
I thought the brakes would be one of the non-weak points. They sure cost enough!
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
It depends how fast you go. All road car brakes wilt eventually. Their pad coeff of friction vs temperature simply isnt rated for that kind of use! :)
These cars arent designed for track work, so dont take them there and they will be perfect daily driver fast and comfy cars.

Couldn't agree more!
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
What Martin has said is correct . . . . but HSV want their cake and want to eat it too. . . . and thats why my OP says . . . does HSV understand it Market!!!
HSV's problems with oversupply, over pricing (Value) and loss of Market Momentum will play out over the next 90 days!!!
There will be a crisis meet at Clayton on tues 17th Jan to reset the agenda . . . make no bones about that
HSV's enginners are back to work (remotely) as of tomorrow to get the SC model signed off asap
The Media has already been tipped off about this Edition
. . . . but that wont satisfy the need for action with the Brands Excusitivity . . or lack of, in recent times as Dealers a overstocked and HSV's will be "Prostituted" over the next 4 months which WILL harm the Brands values. . . and reputation . . . and you can only understand this if you are a current owner!!!!!
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
Sounds like you need to anonymously approve yourself as HSV CEO and tug the board members off so you can produce the worlds first truely unaffordable HSV!

Maybe, but I cant wait to sink my teeth into an MY11 plate Clubby for $45K drive away :)
Could this be realignment of the brand? A bit like the dollar and the Aussie banana republic under Keating
Cheaper HSVs would be better for everyone!

I dont think you will get one for $45 . . . but . . . they will be regoing Clubby "Demo's" that you will be able to buy for $49,995 Drive away in Manual . . . with Zero K's on the ODO
Lets see what that does for SSV Owners!!!
. . . Its a mess . . . that has caught up with them!!!

Now - THAT - is value for money.
Obviously they are still making money at that price as well. Win/Win - unless you forked earlier, then its kinda nasty.
Having said that its not solely a HSV problem. I copped a $15K discount on a new Evo X as it was on 08 plate brand new in Feb 10. Bonus :)
