Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
manual, forget drag radials, borrow slicks. side step at 6k and feather the clutch. unless you have stock diff gears 3.07's, then may get away with radials but anything higher go slicks.
auto's are fine however on a 235/60/15 down to high 10's, 1.5 60fts.

What diff gears do you have and how hard are you launching it?
Yeah I did mate, I now have Weld Prostar rims with full cross ply slicks. Finally got an 11.959@116MPH with a 1.65 sixty footer. I have 3.9's and I do a very quick slip of the clutch at around 6k.
It all depends on your budget but if you intend on visiting the strip often and plan for more horsepower in the future, full slicks are the way to go when you own an M6 car.
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
sweet mate cheers for the heads up.
Do the pro-stars clear your brakes without dramas?
I was looking at the pro-stars also but not sure if they will clear mine with the 320mm rotors
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
If you want to run 15' or 16' rims you will need to put stock brakes on it. Also if you run slicks you need front runners too (i guess you know this) and the costs start to add up. I think you may fit 16' rims with a spacer but i would not, but thats me i know guys have done it without any major dramas. Good luck and lets us know when your going to head out as i plan on hittng the track too after xmas.
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
cheers mate, might try and track down some monaro space savers for the front and see if i can get the 16s on the rear with some wide mt streets. I know it's not ideal but **** pulling the brakes apart every time I want to run.
yep will let you know, probably mid January mate.
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
yeah they say 80km but I thought it was only the tyre that's on them?
Alot of guys use them with front runners
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
What about running the 17" or even 18" ET Streets, that'll clear your brakes and you should get plenty of grip. They come in 275 and wider if you have the room.
In my opinion I don't believe slicks are necessary for M6s sub-300rwkW. I used to have around 280rwkW and could manage high 1.7s 60 footers on 235/60 R15 ET streets with a rather ghey launch, I never used more than 4000rpm and got to 12.00 @ 118mph (using Monaro Space Savers) with somewhere between 270-280ish rwkW. Slicks are a goer if you going more power in the future but for bolt-on I feel that the gain you'd get from front runners would be offset by the frictional loss in the slicks at least, perhaps even go backwards a little.
Where abouts in NSW, if I can find my space savers and I'm somewhere near you and free, you'd be welcome to try them if you'd like.
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
Ahh sweet, might see if I can get the 16s on the rear with 255 et streets and run space savers on the front.
I'm in newcastle as well mate, what do you drive?

Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
spew, guess I'll look at getting some hsv 17s narrowed
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
I use 275 17 inch MT radials and have gone 1.5 60 foot with 400+rwkw in my M6 VE.
Most of my 60 foots in the low 1.7's and 1.6's with a bit of wheelspin, slicks would be better for me but with your setup i would go with radials for sure...
Play with pressures if you have trouble hooking up:driving:
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
cheers mate, was thinking of going some 255 17s and give that a shot
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
what brakes are on the rear of VZ SS Thunders?? thought they would clear a set of 15inch stockies easy
Anyways i know its auto v manual.
My VZ L76 Calais ran 11.89@116mph with a 1.54 60footer.
Made something around 255ish rwkw.
Mods - OTR, Full exhaust, 4500stall, 3.73 gears
Susp. - SL springs front, SLHD rears, Monroe GT Sports all round... Harrop cover if that counts. (very little to no tramp)
Tires - 195/70/15 random brand front on 15x6 ceptors, 235/60/15 ET Streets rear on 15x7 ceptors.
Full trim, minus spare tyre jack and sub box (still had the 2xMono blocks and 4channel in the boot)
Ill go find the exact details, but my mates car (RUN41T) VY SS Cammed M6 ran a couple of 11.9@118mph passes.
270ish rwkw 4.11s stockies as front runners and 235/60/15 ET Streets on 15x7 ceptors too.
6000+ rpm launches.
Re: getting my m6 vz thunder into the low 12s?
Anyone used circuit slicks at the strip before?
Just picked up some hoosier 19x265s with plenty of tread for a good price. I'll give these a crack in 3 weeks when I get home from work.
Hopefully get it into the low 12s with the 3.45 gears and these slicks. Had it tuned and making 264rwkw, feels very strong with the twin plate in there now too.
