SLK55 has the naturally aspirated 5.5 engine, and the SLS is fitted with the NA 6.3.

we currently have an E63 2006 model and 2006 SS V and both a nice cars, as much as i love the performance increase i have mixed emotion about the fact that they are going AWD, I havent owned an AWD V8 before as i have always been a RWD man.
But the 0-100 times are awesome. Given the 70 rear 30 front ratio of power split it shouldnt lose to much feedback from the steering. I guess one drive of the AWD model and i would probably want one :)
You own an E63?.....Nice car.
AWD?...I reckon it'll be great...perhaps it simply may be necessary to get all that torque to the ground. I've heard it said that AMG have even more AWD plans. Whatever they do, I reckon it will be good, & it will be fast...'cause that's what AMG is about....going fast!
I'm happy with the C63 that we have.....there is all sorts of "speculation" about what the "next" "C63" will be, but no-one's got any real idea.....For sure, I don't think it'll have the 6.2 engine.....& I just don't know about AWD....so really I have NO IDEA, but if they did put the 5.5TT engine with AWD into a C sized body.....I just think it'd be a bit "over the top" for that car, which is really the "entry level" AMG car.

will it also be the heaviest sedan...... in the world?
AWD will take a lot of the fun away. If its optional then all good. But making it standard I don't see as a great idea.
I heard it’s only an option as they have a big loyal fan base of RWD purist they do not want to lose as customers. I suppose AWD will be better for the street but for the track I don’t know I think RWD will be still advantages. Lighter car and less drive train power loss and more direct steering feel. But who knows at this point in time. As for taking the fun away true but the power distribution ratio will about 70% directed to the rear and about 30% to the front so you will still be able to go side ways :) But obviously you will not be able to have as much fun, but really who does burnouts in a $250k car !!
Only a clown, a very rich clown lol

Will AWD be available in RHD markets? For a number of years BMW and M-B have offered AWD versions of 5/7 series and S Class in the US. I'm not sure why they weren't offered here. Lack of market? Or is it under bonnet packaging issues?

New rs6 twin turbo v8 does 3.9sec to 100. And it's a wagon!
4wd not good idea IMHO.
Not convinced on 3.4 claim. Happy to be wrong!
Of more interest will be the 80-120 and 0-1000m times.

Thanks pickles, great read. not sure about the awd thing but I can see why. It is impossible to get traction in my sc gt (RSpec did a 4.5 with launch control) and these things are now on a different level again.
It's war among the Germans and the ammunition is twin turbo v8's.
Lets see what times the mags get, but like I said, happy to be wrong. In fact, never happier!
These things are nuts!
No worries...the guys at AMG must have a great time designing, & testing, these "weapons" don't you think?....and there's more coming!!!
I think with the "War" you correctly speak about, AWD is going to help get more of, not only the power, but the torque, to the ground.
