Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
That's a good outcome. I think I may be having a similar oil pressure problem.
How did you measure the oil pressure? Do you have a mechanical guage fitted or can a scan guage be used?

With an LS1 a good scan guage can read directly from the comms or connect a mechanical guage direct.
Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
I'm currently sitting in the car with an obd2 scan guage (and the experienced operator) and we can't seem to be able to access the oil pressure? Have looked everywhere?? (2000 vt calais)
Sorry to fill up this thread, please direct me to another thread if it's explained there.

Are you using torque?
If so, you have to add the extra PID's. Go in to settings on the main screen then manage extra PID's. Click the menu/3 dots and "add predefined set". Pick the GM one and it will give you a whole heap of other parameters you can monitor/log.
Just add the oil pressure as a gauge or dial on one of the real time screens or add it to the 'what to log' list.
Apologies for the delay, hope you're not still sitting in the car[emoji14]
Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
What does "torque" refer to? The device is an Autal Maxidiag with OBD2 v1.4 software. I did see PID on the menus while scrolling about. Will check it out
Thanks!

Torque is an app for your phone that you used with an adapter that you plug into your OBD port. Here is a thread on it.

Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
Thanks mate. I just had a good read through the whole thread. I think I'll buy the plug and see how I go.

Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
Beware of the el cheapo ones on evilbay as they just don't work! :nono:
Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
Got one on the way. It's from an aussie seller, got the latest software etc. Hopefully it works but only $15 so no great loss.
I still think there should be a way to check it with my mates diagnostic tool though...

Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
There probably is but you have to add the parameters/PID so it knows what it's looking at or more so where to find it.
It may be pre-programmed like how I mentioned adding them in the torque app but may not. You can usually manually enter them, just find the code online somewhere ;)
Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
The PID for oil pressure is mentioned in the torque thread. That would be the same for any obd2 software?

Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
Should be yes. You're essentially just giving it an address of where to find it so should be the same as it's all OBDII. Then just set the units and range (say 0-100psi or thereabouts)
Re: Musings on Oil Pressure - Oil Temperature and Ticking Lifters
Just a bit of a follow up but trying not to hijack this thread... I got my obd reader and torque and had a very quick play tonight. All looks like it hooked up correctly.
On the weekend I took the car to a mates and his more knowledgeable ears believe the noise is piston slap not lifters.
I will get some readings for oil pressure anyway and also fit my mechanical oil pressure gauge to keep an eye on things.
Sorry for the hijack!
