The only "other crap" left racing now is the Nissans and the likelihood of one of them winning is probably pretty slim. And if we're really being serious, the Holdens and Falcons are hardly Holdens and Falcons.

The Torana hatchback in the masters race hit in around the same place but front on, probably a little bit slower but still incredibly fast and the driver survived ok. The Hazelwood crash was huge, but probably looked a lot worse because the car spun around in circles and spat panels off everywhere.

Great win for Cam And Richie...up and coming drivers in the championship...

Good to see Garth come 4th :goodjob:

Sandown should be Heritage Listed and protected!!!...... from ever being redeveloped into a Jerry Built, High Density Housing Getto......

Sandown (not the tarmac racing circuit obviously, completed in 1962) has been around since 1888....... Only 129 years...

Found this little Sandown history snipet...


"Racing commenced at Sandown in 1888, but was abandoned in 1891 before recommencing in the early twentieth century (MRC). After World War I, pressure from the State Government and the VRC forced private clubs to

close or become non-proprietary (HV). Racing at Sandown ceased by 1931. Other metropolitan courses that had closed down by the 1940s were Ascot, Williamstown and Richmond.

However, Sandown re-opened in 1965"

"Three motor contests were run at the ‘Commercial Travellers Association’ annual picnic at Sandown Racecourse on 12 March 1904…

Melbourne weekly ‘The Australasian’ reported the event in its 19 March 1904 issue in the formal and amusing language of the day.

The Automobile Club of Victoria’ had another good turnout last Saturday in response to an invitation from the Commercial Travellers Association to be present at their annual picnic on the Sandown Park Racecourse.

Around 1400 people attended in total.

Upwards of 25 cars left Alexandra Avenue (South Yarra, a distance of about 25Km) and proceeded at a leisurely pace via St Kilda, Caulfield, Oakleigh and Springvale. During the afternoon the number of cars swelled to 85,

while there were more motor cycles as well. The road was in a terribly dusty state.

At the course the conditions were more enjoyable. The three motor contests were watched with interest by the picnickers, the ladies especially evincing much enthusiasm.

The presence of a neat electric car in which were seated 2 ladies, one of whom handled the motor with the skill of an expert, aroused the admiration of the gentlemen and the envy of the ladies. It was indeed a novel sight

and will go a long way to removing the impression existing that an automobile is difficult to manage.

It may now be confidently stated that automobilism has caught on, and it will be found that with such persistent and persevering advocates as women-folk can be when they desire anything, their gentlemen friends will

capitulate and procure cars. (very delicately put, cars and anything else!)

After the races were over the cars were rushed by all the ladies; all wanted a ride around the course and the drivers had a busy time for an hour or more’"
