camber of the wheels was hanging them right out at the bottom, it could in no way be described as in even in fair condition (it was a rough, very tired ex Taxi by the looks)
& I was left wondering why anyone would do that?
I was sure that any police officer who saw it would pull him straight over for a defect notice.
Hey, years ago when I was young and got a few defect notices on cars or needed RWC's in Victoria
we would simply swap wheels, tires, springs, exhausts or whatever we needed to get the car through,
I am sure loads of people have done and will keep doing the same.
Paying some monkey $400 or $500 extra income won't change much
& it could possibly put that 4 new tires they need out of the budget so they borrow them to go through the inspection instead.
I think the Police are stretched beyond their limit Ed. I was next to a Camry the other day that had (I shit you not) no front bar, no headlights and no front left quarter panel/guard. Would not have looked out of place in Venezuela

They’re not stretched. They are simply not interested in anything that doesn’t result in revenue, no way those cars would ever see the road again just buy another sh1t box and continue. They know that you or I are going to spend the money to get our cars back on the road.
Same as crime not interested in catching the real criminals but have no problems extracting money from everyday aussies via fines.

Agreed but the police are only doing what the government tells them to do.
It's like loads of things in the world today where we have accountants running everything and the advice of people in the front line quite often ignored.

Yes it is that a bit, but in their defence they are sick of arresting scum bags only for the courts to let them off. Look at the crazy antivaxer chick that got off with a suspended sentence for attacking a pregnant cop and ripping her hair out.
So for that I do feel for them but dealing with them fairly often and I have served them up offenders to them on a platter with evidence of their offending the can’t even be bothered crossing the road to arrest offenders. I’ve had my store robbed by an armed offender I’ve chased them down, restrained them and then been assaulted by do gooders whilst waiting for police to attend. Only to be told that they won’t press charges on the armed offender or the member of public for assaulting me, but then proceeded to warn me in future of not restraining offenders and the police could charge me with assault.
It’s only once the media get involved and it becomes an endemic like the youth crime that they start to do something.
