I have owned an Auto Petrol Captiva company car - very thirsty, I was not paying the fuel bill but still. Generaly 15lt -20lt/100km + the best was a a 900Km trip on cruise control 15lt/100km. I now have another job with a car allowance and since I liked the Captiva in terms of convenience, comfort and value for money I have bougt another one this time Diesel Manual. Once again I like the car, geas well But ---- Drove it out of the dealership down the road and the engine missed or cut out intermittantly and since then has continued to do so. I took it staight back to the dealer who checked it out and told me it was "Turbo lag, bedding in etc" Not so as I konw about turbo's we also have a new VW Polo 1.9lt Turbo Diesel (read Rocket 5.5lt/100km)and Landcruiser 80 series aftermarket Turbo (4.2lt 12lt/100Km). Basicaly Holden do not seem to know anything about modern Turbo Hi Tech diesels. Fuel economy 7.4 on the sticker and I get 8.9 t0 9.5 that is city/country driving. Did a 700Km country trip yesterday on cruise control 110Km/PH 8.9lt/100Km - Disapointing then again the constant missing or hiccups of the motor may have something to do with the economy. The car is booked into Holdens again next Monday. Has any one else have any experience of this missing ??

Hey New to the forum.
I purchased a Captiva Turbo Diesel (SX) last November and have no issues at all.Thanks for that seems that some blokes has had some problems with theirs. My diesel is a manual also. Till date (3000 kilometers on the dial) I have been averaging 620 kilometers until the fuel lights comes on. Thats with 100% bio diesel. I don't know about what kind of diesel the factory put in it but I got 715 kilometers on it after delivery of the vehicle,I am still trying to get my holden rep to tell me where they got that diesel from.All he said was that my baby came with it off the ship.Hence the Korean goodies must be real good.:smilesandbanana:
Anyway all going well, took awhile to get used to that little lag when you just moved off,but nice clutch work dealt with that.

I am a Fleet Manager for a Govt Dept and we have ordered about 6 Captiva SX diesels (mostly auto but 1 manual), we have two in our fleet at present, and had a Holden trial car for a week.
I ahd the car for a day and did about 370 kms and used just under half a tank, some highway cruising, some city driving and some beach work on 16psi. Car performed well in all areas in my (limited knowledge) of 4WD's. The Hill Descent Control is fantastic when offroad, and the car had more than adequate power in normal driving conditions.
The auto had a touch of lag until about 1500rpm. A touch rattly at idle was my main noise complaint. Even base model is well spec'd with fast glass, 6 airbags, ABS, TC, HDC, EBD and cruise... only single CD was a downfall, but SX is base model after all.
I'm a big bloke and I had adequate room in it.

Have had our Captiva LX diesel for a week now. She's got about 600km on the clock, and economy has been around 9.4 litres per 100km. This is just normal driving with the bride, with me giving it lots of stick in the manual mode. So quite happy so far, with a very tight engine!

I noticed last week that NationRail here in Newcastle has purchased a few Captiva diesels to replace some of their Territory fleet - some of which had well over 300,000km on them.
I will be interested to see what they think of them and how well that last as I know they will cop a real hiding. Will also be interested to see how they perform fuel economy wise (not that the guys will care but some take note) especially against the 1 or 2 LPG Territories they have.

Got almost 3000km on the clock of our LX diesel now. Did a highway run down to Melbourne during the week.
Little bit disappointed with the economy, in that it never went lower than 9.3 per 100, seems to sit around 9.7 per 100. This is cruise control on and holding speed limits (110km/h). With all the Hume Hwy roadworks, and slowing to 60 and 80, the economy is better (around 9.3).
Around town it's stitting on about 9.6.
So the town economy is good and about what I expected. The highway economy is higher than I would have thought.

From what i have seen, economy values range.... but dont get too worried early on if you economy doesnt seem very good. The motors seem to take a while to loosen up and the figures seem to get better after about 10,000kms.
Have spoken to an SX auto owner who gets 8.5 (and 10 towing a camper van) on the open road (20,000km's on the clock) and LX drivers that are getting about 9 constantly. ( reps who are up to and over 30,000km's)
Around town 10.5's to 11 city cycle driving for CX/LX.
I dont think thats bad for nearly 2 ton of vehicle?!

Mine's sitting on 10.3 at the moment and it's down to 1/4, 21,000k's on the clock. It's slowly been coming down the last few months, average was always around 11.3-11.5. I don't really drive it any different, still get up it when I need to, pulling into traffic etc. It does seem to be getting better, and I can feel it loosening up, responds better now when the turbo hits boost, not much lag anymore, it's good off the line if you get it right, sometimes I'll miss it and it'll be a slug but I've nearly mastered it and get good takeoff most times now. And I don't mean dragging from lights etc, just good acceleration from the start like a petrol car, no crawling for a few meters until it gets going.

Had my Captiva a few months only done about 8000km, I am getting much the same as Waughy, around low 10's in town, and mid nines on the open road.
I tow a Jayco Expanda about 1600kg I get high 12's low 13's depending on road conditions.
Just love the thing.

Still getting pretty much the same economy after 33,000k's. Could be better, but being a lease car I don't try too hard to go easy on it for economy.

Have had the LX Diesel for coming up a year. Economy is great, highway is around 8.5-9.0 and city is 9.5 to 10.0.
I used to drive Berlinas and Calais so I was retisent to do this but I can say that I do not regret it.
No rattles yet, car has been surprisingly good.
I'm about to stick a tow bar on it so that'l be interesting towing a c/van.

I have just recently bought the 2011 Cap5 sII 2.2 diesel. So far have driven it on M4 and major clogged up roads around Sydney. It is showing an avg of 8.7 at the moment. So pretty good so far. It goes up to avg 10.2 in heavy traffic then down again when I get good run home on the M$ at night. its done 49K k's so is pretty well run in. It was showing 25/100 when I first got it so I reset it and so far soo good. Accelleration is good, quite and steering very good but the 5 seater is a different lenght etc to the 7 seater so not sure how to compare, The 2.2D is very smooth. good luck, hope it all works out, I have read some terrible reoprts on these so hopegully I dont have those probs, but who knows, give it time. Is still nice to drive so far.
